Not really thats just what everyone calls them. My 96 hatchback is an EJ6. Hopefully NOFX will jump in here soon to save the day.

Check the link in my sig for clarification, but the way to find the VIN of a car in your possession is look at the VIN.
I'll use this car as an example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem
It's a '95 Civic EX coupe.
Now, look at the VIN.
2HGEJ1125SH539755
The fourth, fifth and sixth digits are the car's chassis code.
This means it's an EJ1.

EH2 FTW I call it an EG though because you don't find much looking up EH2 LOL. EG has become the new code for all 92-95 Civics.

I'm not sure how it is for 5th gens, but all hatchbacks for '96-'00 were built in Canada and all coupes were built in the US. The sedans were built in different places: Canada, the US and Japan.

so in stead of saying 92-95 honda civic hatchback fenders for sale!
PEOPLE JUST SAY EG FENDERS FOR SALE
easier IMHO </TD></TR></TABLE>
Fenders and other body panels are one thing. Saying "EK motor FS" might be totally different though. A lot of times I see people asking questions about if something might work on their car or how to fix something, and the most they tell us is it's an "EG" or an "EK".
It'd suck if you have a '93 Si hatch and get in a minor fender bender and are lucky enough to find a set of EG fenders for sale... only to find out they're sedan fenders. Why you would sell fenders strictly as EG or EK or whatever though, is beyond me.
While it might be easier to short hand some things, in the long run it can be easier to just say what you really have. Just like if you want to post a part for sale, posting what's broken on it, what it's from, how much you want (or roughly expect) and maybe adding a few photos will greatly help the success of your post. Hell, I even try to add keywords to the bottom of some of my posts to make the info easier to search for.
