Not always true, it depends how you build it. If you simply don't do anything to the block and just put the head on, in my opinion, its not better because you lose a little compression. People say "but the B16 head flows better!" but I honestly don't think it matters that much

Its not that easy dude. If you simply just put stock head on stock block. It is no where near a "Type R status." You have to AT THE MINIMUM, change the pistons to USDM ITR pistons (or JDM ITR, or either B16 pistons) and have at least ITR cams/valvetrain (or something better aftermarket). I have this setup, and let me tell you, theres no reason to call it a poorman's R

Re: (Felliph3)
I know i never said it was easy i was just saying what he was asking was a poormans type r.
Obviously more is required to make a poormans type r, ie cams, pistons etc.
I have a gsr block with full itr internals, crank, rods, pistons etc, and with a type r head, and type r tranny. Might as well call it an ITR motor, the only difference is mine isnt stamped: B18c5 on the block but it is in every way an ITR, when you do slap on a b16 head its a poormans r, when you upgrade to a type r head is when it wouldnt be considered that anymore.

No its not...
The reason its called a "poorman's R" is because you take components of an B-series non ITR parts to make something equivalent to an ITR. But putting a stock B16 head onto a GSR block is nowhere near that.
But anyway, I'm not doubting your knowledge, just clarifying that putting the stock head on the stock block is garbage

Ok i had to reread this lol i thought you said you were doubting my knowledge and i CONCUR with you in every way to say that yes, if you slap on a b16 head on a bone stock gsr bottem end doesnt make it a poormans type r, there are other factors that are considered in to make it a poormans r. Like evetryting listed, pistons and cams etc, need to be change to make it close enough to an r.
