his insurance will have to pay for the damages,unless he doesn't have insurance.then you'll have to sue,but he probably doesn't have any money.so you'll have to collect from your insurance.(assuming you have full coverage,otherwise sue your own insurance) accidents suck! even when you fix it,it's just not the same.in the back of your mind you'll always know!
your friend on the other hand is probably going to be in some trouble! you'll probably and most likely have to help out your friend out w/that insurance money.for legal fees,afterall he was trying to help you out and probably was not thinking rationally.probably watching to may COPS shows.
i really hope everything works out for both of you guys! why should we have to pay for other people's mistakes?
