Re: FAQ: ** Mother of all How-to's : 96-98 EK Manual Climate swap to 99-00 EK Electro
so i just finished the 99-00 dash conversion and im just wondering is there anyway to make the radio surround more stable i mean it clips in the vents at the top but there is nothing holding the bottom and it just seems like it would flop around and can someone be more specific on the rear defroster fix i read two different articles on this praticular swap and i know that you have to tap a wire in the blue and yellow wire in the big blue plug but where do i connect the other end one article said the green plug in front of the fuse box and another article said the blue and yellow wire on the previous defroster plug any insight would be greatly appreciated

As for the rear defroster, you have to tap the wire from the big blue plug to the old defroster plug. This is the way I did it. If you want I could post some pictures.

Here is a copy of an old reply to someone that had the same problem:
What dash did you use? The old one (96-98)? Or the new one(99-00)??
If you used the old one,the 2 last pictures is what you need to do. The first plug (little green or white) is the old plug that plugs into the defrost switch of the old climate console.(now it plugs nowhere) The second big blue plug is infront of the heater
If you used the new dash:
You should tap the wire of the second picture (blue plug) to the same color wire of the big green plug that sits on the fuse box. You should search the wires a little bit. I dont know if this big green plug is infront of the fuse box or from behind, as I did the whole conversion with the old dash, so I followed the fist way!

Hello Camelon,
To introduce myself, I am Ranjan from Sri Lanka and have been a Honda user since 1995.
I presently use a Civic 97 and wanted to swap the Climate Control Panel because the Air Vents were broken. I could not find the manual 97 panel and instead bought a similar bit which I believe is 98 model. But when I took it to my AC Service Guy I discovered that there are many motors and wiring that needs to be changed. He advised me not to tamper with wiring circuits and asked me to find a standard 97 panel.
I was disappointed and searched the net for options. Eureka! I found your post.
As you suggested I went searching for a Heater Blower Unit with 3 pin connection. I could only find one with 4 Pin Resister Core with the AC wiring harness. Please allow me thank you that everything you have said in your article came true.Everything work like a breeze.
Many Thanks Indeed once again! Articles such as yours illuminate people like to try some serious modifications without messing with the original design. And the new look fits right within Honda original characteristics.
I have photos of my car with new Climate Control Panel but I do not know how to attach them to this post. If someone can help me as to how to send photos I shall be grateful.

Hi,
I am Ranjan from Sri Lanka again and I need to replace my front wire Harness (Head Lights, AC and Radiator etc. The Harness I bought have ABS Connectors but my car does not. Is it OK to leave the ABS connectors alone or do I have to remove them. If so please tell me how. Many thanks indeed in advance.

I just did this swap on my living room floor, it took about an hour, I see how people say it shakes and pop out when they hit bumps its held in on the top by the clips, and the bottom by screws. maybe mine was successful because I could see all details by dash being out of the car... ironically I am doing the swap and my car is a EM1, story is that I bought a bare EM1 chassis and ended up piecing it together, so happened the EM1 dash is very rare in Germany so I use an EJ dash and ordered the Em1 components because the entire dash will be too big to ship through the APO

I'm a little confused. My car doesn't have heat, it's bee removed due to me doing a wire tuck so with that said do I still have to get the dash harness?
I do not have a rear defroster either, so what will I need to do?
Do I just need the hardware? No electrical harnesses?

Hi there,
I currently drive a 2000 Honda Civic VTI Coupe (also known as an EM1). I live in the UK and I really want to do this conversion myself, my main question is, will my current dash be okay to do the conversion? Would I get away with just buying the components listed in the thread? Or would it be easier to buy a EK9 dash? As looking at posts several people have mentioned it's possible with a 2000 dash from an EK, and in essance my car has almost everything a 2000EK would have? Any help would be really appreciated, and if anyone could hook me up with the components that would be great!
Thanks,
Amir

Hello Amir,
The climate Control Panel I used is a little different to yours. it is a complete Logic Control and no *****. Yours I believe is somewhat similar to Civic 99 LEV with ***** for individual controls. I feel that most of components you will need are already in your car, especially the Resistor type Core and the wiring harness. Please check with CAMELON (i think he knows this better) or your AC technician before you purchase of parts. If at all, I think you will not need to buy many. I do not think you need to replace your Dash. I am attaching some photos of my Dash. Hope this is helpful.
P.S.
Almost all these second hand parts are available in SRI LANKA. They are imported from breaking yards in Japan and as good as new (about 75%) and they are OEM.
Not the after market rubbish. But the shipping costs to UK will bust you.
Kind regards,
Ranjan.

Re: FAQ: ** Mother of all How-to's : 96-98 EK Manual Climate swap to 99-00 EK Electro
Is it possible to get some updated pics of this entire process? I just attempted this conversion on my 98 sedan. Unfortunately for me, I didnt check online prior to starting this project. I just assumed that, being that its a honda, it should be straight plug and play. WRONGO! I reinstalled my 98 manual climate control, but now my heat doesnt work. So I have no choice but to press on do figure out this conversion. Can we get some updates from guys who have successfully completed this swap?

Sorry guys about the pics, been busy with my own shop for the last 3 years!
took some time to update the links to the pics, I got tons of requests and they are now online. this has been more than a decade since I did this so I do not remember any details other than I made the how to as simple and detailed as possible. enjoy.

First of all sorry for the huge bump, but there was allready a post for this.
I'm currently building my climate control in my EK3
But I can't find the blower box and heater core box anywhere.
I have a EK3 from 2000, but mine heater core works with a push pull cable.
And my blower box is a 4 wire plug so I have to convert this.
But does anyone know where I can find this ?

Just gonna say I happened to find a 2000 EX in the yard while looking for driver's window regulator for my 98, I pulled the whole dash and all the climate boxes. Got too use to Android Auto when driving my Focus RS that I hate driving this Civic without it. So time for double din update and new head unit. So for Android Auto, or CarPlay, the value of the double din is up much more.
