Engine won't start after replacing valve cover gasket
I have a D16Z6 engine. I was replacing the valve cover gasket, and now my engine won't start. I can get it to turn, but when i let off the ignition, it sputters and stalls out. I broke one of the valve cover bolts, and stripped another, but I have 3 holding it on so I can drive to the dealership to get new ones, but I can't get my damn car to start!
The distributor rotor is in the correct position:
The wires are 1-3-4-2... do I have them in the wrong position? If I move them around, the wires stretch in wierd ways. These are NGK wires, so they're made for the exact fit. This is the configuration I had the last time my car was running, right before I replaced the gasket:

1,3,2,4 ...Not really sure what you did but changing a gasket wouldnt affect your motor to start. Id re check you hve the right firing order which it looks like but check the order on the motor also mightve got one swapped around.

Re: (FortunateFool.)
I was thinking for a while, and I thought it was my alarm system, which has a starter kill. I disconnected the battery while working on the ignition, and it went into valet mode. I waited about 30 minutes after having all this trouble starting the engine, and I just went back and it works fine now. Maybe it was flooded or had something to do with the alarm?
BTW - the 1st pic is just showing the rotor position, the wires aren't connected.

Yeah, I've always had an emtpy hole in my valve cover, but the ground is in a different location. I've seen pics of some civics with it attached to the valve cover, and in another spot. Mine's in a different place, I'll get a pic later. The car is running fine now though.

Re: (Deemeetree)
yep, 84 in-lbs = 7 ft-lbs. Luckily the bolts were only about $7 each. They'll be in tomorrow so I only have to drive around for a day with them screwed up. I just hope I can extract that broken one
