engine bay still squeaking, please help :-(
So sometime ago I created a thread about the whole procedure on the timing belt change and I was helped and changed all the belts (a/c, p/s, alt, & timing) and the engine somehow screeched, so I changed the timing tensioner hoping that would solve it. And up to today the engine still screeches everytime I turn the car on and I have to rev it to about 3k to stop the screeching, it also screeches everytime I turn on the a/c and it screeches every 20secs, anybody thinks what might be the problem because honestly, I stoped trying to look for an answer and its still annoying me
EDIT: I forgot to mention its a 2000 lx sedan

It's very likely your AC Belt, based on the information you provided. You can increase the tension by turning the Tension Bolt for it.

This also reminds me of the Alternator Belt squeal I experienced after changing my Timing and accessory Belts. Cold start squeal could be caused by a loose Alternator Belt.

Re-check your Belts to ensure the pulleys haven't burned through them (or a portion thereof). The squeal you hear is caused by the pulley(s) moving while the Belt stands still...
Best to you!

Let me guess...you get squeals when you start the car....also if you were to add any load to the car, say turn on the a/c or headlights, or anything like that?
Buy a better quality belt --- simple as that.
Id bet its your alt belt. and Id also bet its going to say somewhere on it, made in mexico....
Go down to your local auto parts store....pony up the $20 or so for a Dayco....or gatorback belt. Dont let them sell you that store brand "gold" belt...or anything. Specifically ask for a dayco belt (at the very least) or get OEM.
Then...change your alternator belt. That'll stop the squeal.
Id suggest changing them all though, its like 45 mins to change all the belts on these civics, and Id have to venture you bought the cheap belts to begin with. If not, you got a crap belt.
Change the alt belt though.... that'll stop the squeallin upon start up.

Mmmmm yea it does sound weird, have you done it before? And I dont think the vaseline would last because of the heat created by the pulleys/belts

So i think i figured out my problem, i think that both my a/c motor and alternator went bad cuz they stop spining as the belt keeps spining so i think thats where the screeching comes from, any way to fix it besides paying the $ to buy them and replace them?

Idk if one would affect the other, but maybe your ac pump locked up andyour alt belt is screeching trying to turn it...?

Re: engine bay still squeaking, please help :-(
So I went to autozone to test my alternator, battery, and starter and they said they're all working good, electrical wise, but they also said that the alternator bearing might not be working anymore (the reason for the crazy screech and the more-than-normal higher temp on the alt band than the p/s band), so can anyone tell me how I can replace it? Or can it even be replaceable? I think its #5 on the pic

The Alternator rebuild takes up 4 pages of the 96-00 Helm Manual. These instructions include use of a 1000W hair dryer (heat gun), and unsoldering some of the internal wire leads. You will also need a Bearing/Gear Puller to remove it from the Rotor shaft (#2). I haven't done it yet, but I'm considering doing it if/when/after I buy another car. It looks challenging, but not impossible.
I would suggest staying away from it unless you have the Manual and the proper tools. If so, then go for it!

Re: engine bay still squeaking, please help :-(
Please do not rub vaseline all over your belts...slippage=more squealing = no transfer of power...i would agree with the alternator squealing when you put load on it as the bearings tend to wear out...it is also possible you have to much tension or not enough tension on the alternator belt.

I replaced the alternator and it no longer screeches, $180 and a trip to the mechanic (I was 2 lazy to do it on my own) fixed the screech, now I'm a happy camper once more :-)
