Eg A/C Install
Need some help. Ive never really cared about a/c but my sons coming soon so yeah. I need to know what i need besides the obvious compressor, lines, condensor. If anyone one has any info please help me out. Thanks

Re: Eg A/C Install
That depends on your vehicle. Did it originally come from factory with a/c. If yes, what motor do you have in the car? Answering those two questions will yield you more accurate answers from members.

It's not impossible though, just probably not worth the time, money, and effort to purchase all those parts and then finding the time to install them properly. I can almost guarantee you will need to get deep into the engine bay and firewall (not fun, and time consuming) as well as taking out the entire dashboard in order to install all interior components.
Not to mention, the relays that would be required and the wiring needed to mount up the a/c control unit (if that's required I'm not sure).

Re: Eg A/C Install
I agree with these other 2 guys, If the VX didn't come with A/C it would be easier to buy another Civic or whatever that has A/C and with it in great working order.
Installing all those parts would be a bitch and if all the lines aren't right they will leak causing you a lot of headaches.

Re: Eg A/C Install
actually its not that complicated. My 4door never came with AC but i added it with no problem.
Ebay is your friend. I found most of my parts on ebay. I used new OEM seals, bolts, and dryer. Everything else I got from ebay or the HT classifieds. It took me a while to gather all the parts needed and if you are lucky, you can get everything for under $300.
When you install it, be sure to clean every hose (not condensor, compressor, or evaperator) with AC line cleaner you can get from autozone or napa.
if you have the capabilities to charge the system yourself, you should follow these directions to do so. I did and have had no problems.

Here is a list of parts you will need to get ahold of.
Ac motor mount, compressor, condensor, evaporator, dryer, all hoses/lines, and wire harness that goes in the engine bay.
you will also need to know weather ur car is set up for an R12 or R134 system. If your car is 92-93 its R12, if its 94-95 its R134. This is important when locating your parts because the parts are not interchangeable. dont believe people if they tell you otherwise, I wasted $30 on a condensor that was for a R12 system and my R134 lines would not fit. Also the wire harness is difforant for R12 and R134.
From what I have found, all EG's are ready to go for AC. on the heater control there is a plug over where the AC button is, just take the plug off and add the button. The wiring is under the dash for the thermostat on the evaporator (taped to the wire harness behind the glove box) and there is a plug behind the pass. side headlight that is plugged that you will use for the wire harness that goes to the compressor/condensor.

Wow, and I thought this board was a "tech" board? *Sell* his car and get a new one? Lulz. This is tantamount to you guys saying, "You want a car with a B16A engine in it? Don't bother installing it yourself, just find a car with that engine in it already and buy it. It's not worth the effort to do it yourself." True, this is the path of least resistance. But it is also monumentally unhelpful.
OP: As you are probably aware, there's a whole host of unknowns when buying another used car. Consider that you already know the mechanical and repair history of the one you own. If it's in good shape and you're happy with it, why not do a retrofit?
Don't be scared off by that long list of parts someone posted above. Think about it: A/C was *never* a factory option on 5th Gen Civics. It was always put in by the dealer. Honda, naturally, designed it to require a minimum number of work-hours to install, in order for them to minimize costs. Doesn't it make sense, then, that the amount of time to *remove* the unit from a wrecked car would be roughly equivalent to the amount of time required to install it? ("Yes.")
HERE is a link to the installation instructions for a 1995 Civic. Follow these instructions in reverse order, and you've got all the parts required for your A/C. I know this will work for you because I've done it myself. Just remember, though, that you will want the parts from a R134a vehicle ... that's a 94/95 as this is the more common type of refrigerant and less harmful to the ozone layer. Here's a good install DIY.
If you really want to get fancy, consider following my DIY to add a cabin air filter to your setup.
