Default Compression Test/Theft Deterent Problem. NEED HELP ASAP PLEASE.

Hi guys, i'm new here.
I'm not an idiot when it comes to cars, but I have a problem here that's making me feel like I am. SO here's what's going on....

I was doing a compression check on my car (96 civic DX 5 speed)(compression was good) and now my car won't start. This is what I did....

I pulled all the ignition wires and spark plugs, attached the compression gauge, checked each cylinder, put the plugs and wires back on/in, and expected my car to start back up. It didn't.

The car was running/working perfectly fine before this, absolutely no problems. The firing order is set correctly. I have a buddy who is a reputable mechanic, and he said I don't have to disconnect any distributor wires before doing this. I don't know if he is correct.

I checked for spark, and i'm not getting any. The car would crank over, but just wouldn't start. No firing at all. I'm pretty sure the car is getting fuel, but I couldn't say for certain ATM.

Here is problem Number 2.....
This being said, my buddy thought that we might as well disconnect the battery incase it was something electrical, and that doing so might "reset" itself. We were wrong. So now on top of it not starting we set off some theft deterent system. With the keys out of the ignition the car's hazard and dash lights will flash. There is also some little red light on the left of the steering wheel that will flash, and the car beeps. Now I can't get the car to do anything, for it acts like it's truely dead. I'm sure it's in theft deterent mode because I can't even crank the engine over with the starter.

I'm wondering, is there any "reset" switch for this theft deterent system? How do I turn this system off? Until I fix this I can't address the other problem. Unfortunately my car is stuck in my buddy's driveway, and i'm sure his parents won't want it there for long. I'm also a little strapped for cash right now, so I really need to fix this myself.

The only switch I noticed under the dash was some little metal toggle switch that said on and off. I flicked it twice, and it didn't fix anything. Any idea what this is for?

It seems like this is a common problem, but I can't seem to find anyone who has posted a solution to it. I'd REALLY appreciate it if anyone could help me out with this.

Thanks guys!

An alarm remote will fix problem #2, as for no spark check all your fuses correctly.

Ok, i'll check all the fuses just incase. As far as the alarm goes though, I didn't even know I had one. There is no fab with the car, so there is no remote. That's the thing that stumps me. Basically I need to turn off/bypass this alarm without a remote, but i'm not sure how you'd do that. Does that make sense? Any ideas?

if all you did was pull your plugs and wires, and didn't disconnect the distributor itself

your buddy is wrong, sending power to the coil but not letting it expel the voltage out of the coil will blow it

you blew your coil 100%

Yeah, I kinda figured it blew after there was no spark from any plugs. I'll replace the coil. The only problem is that I can't do anything with the car until I get this theft deterent problem fixed. The car is basically in "i'm being stolen" mode, and there is no way to start/turn over the motor now.

Does anyone know of anyway to "reset" this, without a remote (I never received one), so that I can go on addressing the other issue?

Thanks for the replies.

Alright, well I figured it out. Apparently someone installed an aftermarket alarm system on it (which I will be taking to the shooting range), so I ripped it out. The car was "functional" again, but wouldn't start still. I pulled apart the distributor and replaced the ignition coil, and all is well. Thanks for the replies. I just thought i'd let you guys know incase someone is having a similiar problem.
