Civic mileage
In your estimation, what kind of mpg should I expect from my newly purchased 1998 Honda Civic DX hatchback automatic 1.6L?
Not that this matters, but it is bone-stock, has less than 77k miles, a new timing belt, and meticulously maintained, as far as I can tell.
My guess would be that the mileage would be 75% city driving and 25% highway.
Thanks

Re: Civic mileage
Another factor is how you drive. Do you charge up each and every hill flooring the gas, trying to pass people auto tranny downshifting all the time; or do you smoothly let the auto tranny slide into highest gear/torque converter lock and carefully monitor the traffic and road situation ahead to keep the engine right in the efficiency band of 2-3k rpms.

Re: Civic mileage
best thing to tell how healthy your motor is to do a compression test. then as long as cap rotor, wires and air filter are well maintained along with fuel filter every so often then you should get optimal gas mileage
