car wont start help
whats good HT so yeah i was driving my car earlier, stopped at a restaurant to get some food came out and my car wouldnt start. all the dash lights / cluster lights come on, when i try to turn the car on u can hear it try to start but nothing. me and my buddy tryed to jump it with his jetta but still nothing. went and had the battery tested at advanced auto and they said the battery was MINT. so i checked all the fuses (literally all of them) and there all good. also put my ear to the gas cap and i can hear the fuel pump turning on. so my question is starter or alternator? or something else? the spark plugs are fairly new, same with dizzy cap wires and rotor. i opened up the dizzy to check for corrusion and everything looks really clean. same with battery terminals, no corrusion whatsoever and also tight connection. never had this problem with my car before had the car for about a year now its a 97 civic coupe w/ a D16Y8. its late now and the car is parked in a parking lot where it died im gona go over there in the morning and check it out. but my question is do u guys think its the starter or alternator cuz i asked a friend and he said alternator but the guy at the parts store said it sounded like a starter. any suggestions?
like i said - dash lights / cluster turns on but no start. u can hear the starter trying to turn tryed hitting it with a hammer but still nothing. if alternator is bad wouldnt the car start with a jump? plz help!!

Re: car wont start help
motor will not turn over at all. checked for spark earlier and is good. also got another good starter put it in and still nothing. checked all my grounds / wires / sensors n **** and everything looks normal i havent touched anything on the car recently besides my cluster lights i changed them to blue thats the last thing i messed with with the car. that was about 12 hours before the car died.
also i wana add that the car was anti-locking itself for 2 - 3 days straight was very annoying didnt even get to look into that cuz now the car wont even start. also the SRS light was on and stayed on never did that before.
so any other suggestions? im gona mess around with it tomoro morning again and still sitting in the same parking lot like 10 mins away from my house. anything guys? if i cant get this thing running tomoro im prolly gona have to get it towed :-(

use a 19mm socket on crank pulley to check if motor is locked which it shouldnt be.
definetly might be a loose connection, check the positive cable to the starter from the under hood fuse box, make sure you have 12v at the starter, ohm the little ground plug on the starter when you click the key to start. if it still shows OL something before the starter isn't giving it the ground. then try to ground the starter yourself to check if bad starter

man there were some horrible suggestions in this thread, and a "ceased" motor is hillarious.
in the future your car doesnt need an alternator to start, you can jump a car with a bad alternator. you can also jump the starter to the battery and rule that out as well.
