Default car wont start!!

t's a 1994 del sol with a d16z6. car was running, pulled up to my carport. turned it off, unplugged the spark plug wires from the distributor cap (was checking to see if i had another distributor to fit the engine ), pulled the dizzy out, tried the other for fitment (didn't fit), so i put the original one back in, plug the wires back up, and now it won't start. I have triple checked the plug wires, firing order, (1-3-4-2, with no.1 starting at the cam gear side of the engine, and no.1 on the distributor being the lower left plug-in. took the cap off and brought the engine up to TDC to make sure that the rotor lined up to the no.1 plug wire and it does. pulled the spark plug out and checked for spark, got spark. took the fuel pressure reg. loose to check for pressure and nearly got squirted in the eye (got pressure, and gas.) car still won't start!! now the car has been throwing a code 9 (cyp) and 43 (fuel supply system). it doesn't throw all the time, just occasionally. Can i change out all the guts of the distributor ( they are the same it looks like ) and that be like changing distributors? to solve my code 9, i hope. o yeah swapped out ignition coils as well, no difference.

Is the engine now running poorly and throwing the two codes? If you clear the codes, and then crank or run the engine, are the same two codes again thrown? Have you checked for damaged pins in the distributor connector?

Have you checked whether the mechanical timing is off by a tooth or two? Do the fuel injector connectors get battery voltage? Have you compression tested the cylinders?

Is this how the plug wires are installed?

the car was running fine until you messed with the dist. so my guess is that its 180 degrees off...

i thought the dizzy only went in one way?? I'll check it though. the engine has been running fine, though with a miss, which was why i was seeing if my other dizzy fit it. when it threw the codes it really didn't change the way it ran, and when i turned the car off and then started it again, they were gone, and it wouldn't throw them again for while, as in a couple seperate trips before they came back on. the connectors are fine, haven't done a compression test yet, got to get my hands on a tester tomorrow. and yep the plug wires were on the cap as in that pic. checked timing as well, it was on target. I will check the injectors as well ax compression asap. thanks for the input

I've read of people installing the distributor 180-degrees out of phase, but I think it would be difficult to do:

i didn't force the distributor in or anything, it went right on, so don't think it's backwards, especially after putting engine at tdc and the rotor button pointing at no.1

solution to problem. ok so i called the guy i got the car from, ( had it for less than a week) and he said that it had a weird twist on where you plug the wires on the cap. so he plugged no.1 where no.3 usually goes, and from there the usual firing order prevails 1-3-4-2. car started, no problems besides the slight miss. no codes or anything. although i'm sure that the 9 and 43 will pop up again soon. any ideas on these?? or should i start a new thread for that?? thanks for the help
