Can you fix a dented header?
oK, So i got a 4-1 header for my car recently (used)
It had some wrapping around the right pipe which i removed cuz i was wondering what it was for.
the guy said it was to protect the hoses close to it.
So after awhile all is ok, until today I checked under the hood and saw that the right pipe had dented (o yeah, also, it looked like it was welded, wasn't smooth)
And it was like, a huge dent. Z told me to come on here and ask if anyone knew about if it could be fixed? drilling a hole in it or something?
help meeeeeeeeeee!!!
ps. i emailed the guy i got it from and im waiting for a response on what happened to it.
here's the pic EDIT: thanks EKology (see pic below)

I don't know what you could do. Possibly pull it off, and possibly pry it back to shape from the inside, since it isn;'t too far from the port.

I dont think that you can fix that. I say you go back and return that crap header and buy yourself a brandnew one.

You can try this - Plug all the ports with some sort of stopper, maybe something rubber. Now make a hole in one of the stoppers so you can wedge an air hose into, thus pressurizing the header. Now get a blow torch and heat the dent, if there is enough heat and pressure, the dent will pop out. A buddy of mine used this method for his dirt bike pipe which was dented on a botched landing.
A bit tricky but it just might work.

pull the header off and get a piece of pipe and try to pry/pop it back out the best you can it will always be there but the better you canmake it look the better it will flow on the inside

Re: Can you fix a dented header? (blufke)
take it to a muffler shop and they'll probably heat it up and poke it out from the inside...they might do the air pressure thing, but it all depends on the thickness of the steel. Replacing the header on my friends M1 was a PITA x5.

Re: Can you fix a dented header? (dragnize)
I will have to talk with my friend last I remember he got a header with a dent in it, granted I did not view the picture, but can imagine what it looked like. Anyway, he was telling me about something that would actually be pulled through the header like a round cylinder or ball. I will have to ask him what he did to solve this problem or show him the thread.
