Default burning oil, d16y8 mini me. how should i test it?

so i am now burning a bit more oil than before. about 1.7 quarts between changing oil intervals of 3k miles.

i know it must be either the valve seals and/or piston rings or at least im assuming im right.

is there a way to test these to make sure im on the right track?

i know fixing them both is cheap but it will take some time which im kinda limited on. i dont mind fixing both if its needed but if im just doing them and only one is needed than im wasting time i dont have.
so do you guys know what i need to do?

video on a snap on tool that helps with removing the keepers and reinstalls them very easily.

Use leak down tester.
