Re: Beecee18's EM1 restoration and build thread
Alright finally back at it while the weathers good.
Here are a few pics of underhood completely cleaned up and partially mocked up, I wanted to mock up the complete airbox to make sure I was not missing any of it. Since one of my main goals for this build after everything is done is to drive into the smog shop the first and only time, and blow through smog.
So at first I will be breathing out of stock box and exhaust. And of course will have to locate a 2000-2001 USDM ITR ECU for fueling duties.

Today I removed the interior for a wash, We have a storm coming in tonight so I'm gonna take advantage of the nice day we have and the really dry winds to help speed up the dry time of the seats, carpet, ect.

One of the first things to do for me cause this crap simply nervouses the
$#!T out of me, is remove any aftermarket alarm, stereo wiring, toggle switches ect.
Here we have the enemy
I know Ill look the other way and my car will be gone, and Im ready to implement other security measures and I came across a member here that found some ingenius ways of doing so with some funny products. So I might just visit this funny *** site and, "ADD TO CART"

Now its time to get our douche on,
I know when you order carpet kits from honda they come from some AAC or AAG company or something, and are complete trash.
Again the carpet kit here is just full of soda as were the seats and should clean up well.
The original tag on the carpet kit was the same company I just got done mentioning to another member here that was interested in the trunk liner.
Same manufacture. Maybe they can be contacted directly?

I then focused on just wiping the interior bare floorboards down similar to the way I did the the trunk.
And some pics of the after

Other than the lower core support, I have still found no other body damage or signs of any accidents, All of the ID stickers are still present inside the driverside doorjamb

Will follow up with more when interior gets reinstalled.
A few things I know need replacement interior wise
1 passenger side door handle
2 driverside window motor/regulator(window currently held up with tie-wire)
3 Shift boot
4 3-4 plastic push clips.

Re: Beecee18's EM1 restoration and build thread
These cars are hard to find in a condition to do so.
The way I look at it is honda offered only so many factory twincam vtec variants to the US market, in actually small numbers also, so I simply want to restore the car to have around as a conversation peice or hand down to the next of kin.
I probably wouldnt be able/want to do this if I hadnt aquired the vehicle for such a small price+ all the extra parts that were already laying around from my honda past.
Good luck at the auctions, and let me know if I can answer any ?'s for you.

Re: Beecee18's EM1 restoration and build thread
Will update more at the end of the day with the reinstallation of the interior.
I started yesterday and got this far.
Here are 2 pics of both door jambs.
I cleaned everything up and used cleaner wax in both bare door jambs, and then carnuba wax after to get the paint in good shape so the interior peices overlap them correctly.
Shot at 2012-04-16
Shot at 2012-04-16
Also reinstalled the headliner.
I had to be extra carefull cleaning this peice, even though it was one of the most filthy in the car.
Shot at 2012-04-16
When I was cleaning the sun visors, I noticed a commemoritive pin from honda 1948-1998 50 year,
I'm not sure that this came from the factory/dealership, but after cleaning up the visors I reinstalled it exactly how it came, please chime in if any of you are familliar with this.

Re: Beecee18's EM1 restoration and build thread
Here is more of my progress today.
I have most interior peices in, and also have the power window switches plugged in temporarly to test the electrical before assembeling all of the interior panels. I know the driver side window motor/regulator need replacement, and the passenger side moves but doesnt want to come down.
I need to further inspect the reason for this and fix accordingly before reinstalling the door panel.
Shot at 2012-04-16
I also started to remove the old tint on the windows.
By the good grace of lord both the driver side rear quarter glass and the rear window tint came of in one peice each.
I use laquer thinner to remove any excess tint adhesive, and a razor blade with window cleaner to do the finish clean. This is much easier to do when you have most of your interior removed.

Re: Beecee18's EM1 restoration and build thread
Also the trim ring around the h/vac controls and stereo is trashed,
Mounting tabs all broken and a bb hole in it.
Its just there as a mock up and will be in the market for a replacement peice.

Re: Beecee18's EM1 restoration and build thread
Just got a call from Todd My cylinder head guy and he said my valves were all toast from the corrosion from the hydrolock. So ill be bringing him down a low mileage gsr cylinder head to salvage whatever he needs from that.

Re: Beecee18's EM1 restoration and build thread
Finally got the passenger side quarter glass removed,Trade off for that was turning my right index finger into something that looked out of a horror flick, but anyways, got that de-glaized and is ready for a used quarter glass and a new seal from honda.
I used the rest of my time to fix both of the problems that were present with the power windows in both doors. You will notice in some of my previous pictures I had both door cards removed to troubleshoot this when I got to it.
Hereare some pics of the seats and rest of the interior re-installed after everything was cleaned.

here is a pic of the front after windows and regs we fixed
Shot at 2012-05-08
Starting with the drivers door I noticed the previous owner had used tie-wire to hold up the drivers window as it wasn't even bolted to the regulator. He had used the wire to temporary hold the window up until what I would assume, he finally got to fixing it.
Also I swept the bottom of the inside of the door with my hand to notice a little pot-metal gear thingy with all the teeth broken off, I was sure of it that this was part of the regulator or motor and the chance of a fix was probably out of the question.
So I removed the window and the regulator assy. And found out that broken gear peice was the part that the motor connects to the regulator and pivots on.
Thank god my father and I keep around a $#!T-Ton of spare hardware and misc crap around, As I was able to devise something much better than the factory using nylon washers and metal cylindrical spacers/washers.
So I re-installed the driver side window in the tracks while adjusting the tracks to the window, and soaked the tracks in silicon spray lube.
The drivers side window works so buttery its not even funny. Im probably going to break the other reg on the pass side and do the same treatment in the future. Here is the drivers side door with the window working stupid good, and door card re-installed.
Shot at 2012-05-08
The passenger side I noticed wouldnt come down but you could see the window move a little, so I just removed the window to find it was out of the tracks on both sides. So I simply removed the window, re-adjusted the tracks to the window, and soaked the tracks in silicon spray lube, and re-installed.
It works good but not as good as the drivers side.
The same broken gear from the drivers side is about to break on the passenger side so it will get the same treatment as the driver side got when needed.
I came to the conclusion that these parts must be broken and windows out of thier tracks from F%$#ers prying the windows outwards to break into the vehicle and steal it.
This is passenger side with door card re-installed
Shot at 2012-05-08
Its all gonna be about the motor next as cylinder head will be coming back, and so will the B18C engine block.

I use your thread also for enthusiasm for this project also.
Vehicle came with the head unit, so ill use it, upon first powering the car up it spit an old hip-hop cd at me so
freshy floormats would be solid also, thank god the previous owner had them in there or the carpet would be thrashed. But that all went to the floormats as they are trash
let you know if I come across a deck,
at first I thought nothing special, just a civic cd deck,
until I powered the vehicle up towards sunfall to find out all of the dash lighting including the display of the stereo is amber instead of that bluish colour.

Hey duder, thanks to the good people I have surrounding me different skills/trades/minds. I have a friend who runs a local stereo shop and saw the thread and let me know he had an extra SI stereo w/code that is now availible for purchase to anybody interested in maintaining originality as our cars age and gain value and rareness.

This thread has made me decide to rip out my carpet and clean it.
@beecee18: I think it's great that an enthusiast like yourself has taken on this project. I like what you're doing with it.
Which kinda sucks. Those Honda decks work FOREVER.

Re: Beecee18's EM1 restoration and build thread
Great minds think alike as I'm also a Bryan lol,
When I cleaned the carpet out I simply just hosed it down until all of the color came out of it, or should I say dirt and soda, I would have sprayed a little simple green if I had big traffic or problem spots but it really didn't.
About the stereos, I believe with the introduction of those units that converts speaker channel signals to preamp outputs make the use of aftermarket headunits not necesary.
Unless you would be going for a killer all out competition sound system, and I know most of us here are not out for that. So the original unit made for the car will suffice.
Also the blinking light on the front of the unit is great for scaring theives LOL!

Awsome find, and great job restoring her. I have implemented a security device you may be interested in.
I actually have some parts you might be interested in. I have front control arm energy suspension bushings for an Si, that were too big for my EX, and I have some suspension bushings for your front and rear sway bars. My car is a hybrid of so many other cars at this point it just looks like a Civic, but it is everything I want - almost.
If you ever need help with anything, or need access to specific tools let me know I have a bunch. I'm going to check out the PM you just sent me
