Icon2 ! Battery light will not go off!

So I've read quite a few discussions but haven't found any that pertain to my situation.

A few months ago I decided to install a shift light on my 99 civic ex (manual transmission). While I was installing it I must have accidentally touch two wires together because I popped the fuse to the alternator. I didn't realize I had done so until the car started acting weird - the speedometer quit working, lights got dim, and the car almost died while I was driving it. After I replaced the fuse and charged the battery everything has been fine, except the check battery light will not go off. I have had no trouble starting the car or any other issue with it. My only problem is the battery light has been on this whole time. I have unhooked the battery and re fasten it, made sure everything was hooked up properly but the light sill won't go away. Like I said before, the battery light was not on until the battery got drained due to the alternator not charging it. Is there anything else that could be causing this? If anybody has any idea what is causing this light to stay on please let me know.

The "battery" light is actually a charging system light. If it's still on, there's something wrong with your charging system. Have your alternator tested.

how long have you been cruising with it on?
could have damaged voltage regulator in the alt when you blew the fuse.

I figured the charging system was fine, sense it hasn't stalled or anything sense I charged the battery. Had the battery checked today and got told it was charging properly. I'll have the alternator checked out just in case though.

Been causin with it on for around 3mo now.

It's possible (probable) that there's still something wrong with your alternator. Or you fried a wire, but that is not likely since the fuse should have blown before that happened. You may need to swap in a replacement and/or fix your current one. Get it tested, that's for sure.

Lesson learned: Disconnect battery before conducting ANY vehicle electrical work. I thought this was common knowledge but apparently not!

Ok, hopefully I'll be able to get my alternator tested/fixed next week. Hopefully that'll do it. Thanks for the advice all.

battery light being on ALWAYS indicated an alternator issue, check power/grounds/in-line fuse if there is one.
