Re: barn find Si, HELP!! (94civicgsr)
if i can just get this thing running, and it would run for a year, i would be willing to drop the cash on fixing the body panels and do an engine swap or build this engine. i just have to come up with 8500.00 more for a doggone wedding.

Re: barn find Si, HELP!! (jpelaston)
I've noticed two things that i want to know... one, you mentioned your fiance washed it...
and two, you gotta pay for a wedding...
Are you the bride to be? because my understanding is the woman's family pays for the wedding....
haha, but thats not the point. The point is, if ya really want it running, your gonna have to spend some money. But, if you dont keep it, and the other guy doesnt buy it, let me know!

Re: barn find Si, HELP!! (team_exceed)
yeah SHE washed it while i was gone...
and yeah WE are paying for the wedding. it started out with her mom and dad offering to pay for the stuff but as we started booking things and getting things lined up they didn't seem to want to help as much.
I am willing to spend SOME money to get it running.... ive dropped 200 bucks so far just for oil, plugs, fuel filter, and ect.
i just don't want to have so much wrapped up in it that if i throw in the towel, that i can't at least break even on the sucka.

Re: (miguel329)
none yet, sorry. I will get some though!
One thing I am wondering about is, on my engine the valve cover does not say V-tec. but the car is an Si. did the early Vtec motors not have the Vtec valve cover? I got this from a girl who never modded or changed anything.
she was and still is nuts about maintenance, so thats good!

Your correct about the VTEC stamped on the valve cover. Check out this link to better understand why: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2204762
Also how much did you pay for the whole car? What color is it? How many miles are on it? Does it have the stock stereo?(if so I'll buy that from you when you go to switch it out) Sounds like you got a killer deal. LMK if those others are not going to buy it and I'll see what I can do.
I would probably switch out that fuel pump since its been sitting for so long. (but thats just me)

Re: (meandino)
it does have the factory stereo in it but i don't have the code to reset it.
it is the blue Si color and theres 165xxx miles on it. just a small spot of rust above the rear fenders and on the bottom corner of the passenger door.
right now the list of parts i have gotta get to be happy with it are:
L/R fenders
Hood
Bumper
Windshield
moonroof
turn signal lights
alternator
If i get all these parts for it and still come in under 1200.00 total for the car, I'll be really pleased.

Re: (jpelaston)
btw, instead of messing with a hose and siphonng the old gas out, EG's have a drain plug on the bottom of the gas tank

Re: (teal_dx)
LOL, yeah I know that now. I didn't know that when I set about draining it though. I spent an hour turning the key on and off and running the gas out at the fuel pump. I will still probably drain it again just to get all of the crap out, but for now it will be ok just to start it to move around my driveway.

i've done it a few times. just make sure your car is not jacked up from the back (you can jack it up in the front i guess....) lay down by the drivers side door. reach your hand in with your socket under the rear wheel and it's right there....i would def. wear rubber gloves lol

btw cause the car has been sitting for so long it probably has no compression... take the plugs out and try putting a lil oil in all the cylinders... it's also possible the since it didn't start the cylinders washed with gas and also causing a no compression state. In other words when it runs again you might need to change the oil if it smells funky. Try the oil trick it's worked for me lots when I was wrechin on cars.

Re: (jpelaston)
man the nuts and bolts under hood, and everywhere for that matter, are all so rusty that even after the good ole' PB Blaster, some are still breaking off... and the phillips head screws that are along the top edge of my bumper are impossible to remove.. i may end up drilling those

Re: (s2ktarga)
NEW WINDSHIELD INSTALLED TODAY!! but i have another problem (maybe)
So i have the alternator out and just letting the car run without it for a short period of time (10 minutes) i tried to rev the car up and it won't go over 3500 RPM it just kind of bounces off of 3500 and won't go any higher.. will running it without the alternator cause that? or is something else amiss?
thanks so far to all that have chimed in. i think this thing will be driveable by the end of next week

yeah, i dont't know anything about those wheels. a friend of mine said he had never seen those factory wheels before. i guess they must have been an option that year.

A little early to be calling an eg a "barn find", hehe. One day though, when all you guys are old and cranky.
You will probably need a new radiator suport. check the plastic headlight brackets, I bet they are broken too.
Plus, keep an eye on any rubber tube or gasket, you may get plenty of fresh leaks during the first 6 months you are driving it. If you can keep your total expenses under 2000-2500, you would be in real good shape.
good luck

Re: barn find Si, HELP!! (crxcess)
yeah the radiator support is bent. I am going to try to bend it back at first, it looks like a real chore to replace. you are also correct about the plastic inserts being broken on the headlights.
i have been looking for leaks but so far i've not gotten any, but like you said the first 6 months will be the test.
so far with the cost of everything i have spend money on i am around 700.00
