Default VTEC valve cover

Okay, so I know about 6th gens, but not too much about 5th gens.

Could someone please refresh my memory?

Do any USDM 5th gens come with a valve cover that say VTEC on them? Could someone show me photos too?

Thanks in advance.

ANSWER
(Photos in thread below.)
1992-1993 Civic EX and Si valve covers do not say "VTEC" on them. The same goes for the 1993 del Sol Si and the 1992-1993 Civic VX.

1994-1995 Civic EX and Si valve covers do say "VTEC" on the valve cover.

i assume your talking about d series... d16z6 (5th gen civic's) say vtec on the valve cover, d16y8 (6th gen) do not say vtec

What USDM 5th gen Civic didn't come with a D-series?

IIRC, only certain years of the Z6 came with "VTEC" on the valve cover. I might be wrong though.

I already know the USDM Y8 doesn't say "VTEC" on it. In other countries they do though.

ive seen a 93, my g/f's 94, and my 95 have the vtec valve cover. as for the 92's idk. and i dont think any 5th gen civic came with anything but a single cam. there was the d16z6, the 1.5 non-vtec and the rare, 1.5 vtec. only the delsols and integra's had dual's until the 99-00 si.

Well, of course there were hatches and sedans overseas with DOHC engines stock, but not here in the US.

I thought some did say VTEC though. Any pics?

The only dohc "Civic" we have in the states is the 99-00 civic si with the b16a2 or if you consider a del slow a civic then the Del slow si DOHC came with the b16a3 from 93 to 97.

Thanks for repeating what I just said and then some stuff about del Sols.

By the way, overseas the del Sol is known as the CRX. Here in the US even, the '93 and '94 models were both badged as Civic del Sols.

So yes, they really are Civics.

And yes, 5th gen Civics overseas had the B16A (EG6 hatch and EG9 sedan). There were also del Sols (CRX) with B16As overseas as early as 1992. Many of these engines were built in 1991 and the European ones were B16A2s.\

Anyway though... we're not talking in a thread about B16s.

They're either swaps or from overseas. Most people would prefer to ship over a Japanese car than a European one.

Thanks to l337m4n for posting exactly what I needed.

this thread is funny. here is a link that lists all honda motors and what years they came in what. problem solved. yes the d16z6 valve cover said vtec on it for curtain years. the d16y8 did not. however, they are interchangable. that is as far as usdm goes like you asked. here the link to all honda engines....

as far as i know, only 94 and 95 did say vtec on it. 92-93 did not. however they are vtec and you can swap a valve cover on there that does say vtec.

I don't care what engines were available.

In fact... I'VE WRITTEN THE BIGGEST HONDA ENGINE CODE AND CHASSIS CODE LISTS ONLINE.

No one needs to tell me again what engines came in what. I want to know only about the VALVE COVERS.

Oh, and the wiki article sucks. I've seen it before.

Thanks. I'll compare part numbers in a bit to see what it says.

you asked "What USDM 5th gen Civic didn't come with a D-series?"

well that link shows if anyone wants to know. plus ppl were talking about it and i figured that would be the best way to get the facts straight. far as your original post, i understand you were only asking about valve covers.

That was a sarcastic post, which is why it was followed by the "crook smilie".

I know all the 5th gen chassis codes, engine codes, etc. and so forth. I don't need any help on that. I make lots of posts helping people about stuff like that.

Please just ask if you need to know of the origin of an engine. Wikipedia does not have that much information. I have more info on my computer (needs to be cleaned up).

Okay, so it looks like the earlier ones don't say VTEC. That would be these ones.

COVER, CYLINDER HEAD
12310-P07-A00
93 DEL SOL SI
93 CIVIC 2DR EX
92-93 CIVIC 3DR SI
92-93 CIVIC 3DR VX
92-93 CIVIC 4DR EX

And these are the ones that DO say VTEC on the valve cover.

COVER, CYLINDER HEAD
12310-P28-G00
94-95 DEL SOL SI
94-95 CIVIC 3DR SI
94-95 CIVIC 2DR EX
94-95 CIVIC 4DR EX

I'm actually not looking for one, but it would be nice to see a photo in here for comparison. Could you post a photo?

This thread was just me wondering about things.

Just for some more confirmation i guess, my 94' z6 does indeed say
"vtec" on the v/c. I guess this is another one of the 92'-93' and 94'-95' differences like the maps being on the firewall for the 92'-93' and on the t/b for the 94-95'?

I'd actually really like to end up documenting the differences in the US trims and years and such. Just like what I did with the 6th gens (which I occasionally add info to).
