Automatic shifting problems
Maybe 2 or 3 months ago is when this started happening.. But when my automatic shifts, most of the time its 2nd to 3rd... when it shifts... the rev goes higher at a specific point then when it finishes shifting... it goes to normal...
im thinking its happening when it is in neutral since i see no increase in pull... it sometimes revs a whole 1k rpm... i have asked a few people i know and each one thinks its different.. one thinks its a gas problem... another transmission... i thought it was transmission... im gonna try changing out tranny fluid see if that helps... it looks clean tho.
Any help is appreciated

My car does the same thing. No, it is not a problem with gas. It is a tranny problem. Changing you fluid and filter may help. I hope that you haven't been neutr-revving your motor. That is when you put it in neutral, rev it up, and then drop it into drive. This is what I did. Eventually my tranny went out. Costs $1200 for the rebuild. I would recommend replacing instead of rebuilding. $1200 later my tranny still does it. Hope this helps.

How does the fluid look?
Should be a bright red color, if its not change the fluid and replace the filter. That MAY help but thats a cheap option to explore compared to pulling the trans and doing a rebuild.

my car has been doing that on 2nd gear too. but if i push the gas a little harder it shifts without the higher rev. it's been like this for a year now. i had honda change the tranny fluid, though i dont know if they completely flushed it or just flushed it a little.
does the tranny have a filter? where should i get a complete tranny flush done?

Could be a tranny problem...could be a torque converter problem. This symptom usually occurs when the fluid is low(not enough fluid entering the torque converter) but it could be a whole wack of different things.
Automatic trannys like having their fluid changed, so if you can i'd suggest taking it in to get flushed or at least changed. The 96 trannys don't have a fliter you can change.

check the vacuum line that goes to the modulator valve. If it is unhooked or stopped up or broke it will cause a part throttle flare up between the 2-3 shift. ALso the modulator valve could be bad.

This happened on my Civic, and the tranny finally **** out on me. I changed the fluid regulary and did all the required maintenance. I'm glad it happened though, I swapped it over to a manual after it went.

cool man thanks, ill look into that.
I did a transmission flush, and as it was all draining, it started getting white foamy substance.
I dont kno if that could be the seafoam trans tune that i used. But i was hoping it would help. It was better for a total of 2 minutes driving... and then it went bad again.
any more info on the modulator valve and such would be some great help. I dont know much but i try to learn.

Try to smell the fluid. If it smells burnt then it is bad but if it smells like ATF fluid out of the bottle you are fine.
Also, pull the stick and rub the fluid between your fingers to feel for grit. If you feel grit and particles you should definately change your fluid.
I think local transmission shops charge something like $100 to change the ATF and filter but if you can do it yourself you'll save $$$.

I don't know if pressing the gas harder is all that great of an idea. I might me comparing apples to oranges here, but i had a 1995 ford taurus GL (lol), and the transmission started doing what was described. I also tried this gas thing, and it worked for a few months. Well, now i can squeak the tires doing 45 down a hill. A ford taurus is really not meant to do this.
