it says what they're called in the link you posted... steering boot kit, or rack boot.

no, hardware stores don't normally carry car parts. especially model specific ones like this.

there are plenty of places online to find these, or your local autoparts store, or honda dealer...

why do you want universal ones?

im not tryna say go to a hardware store to look for car parts, i seen a post on a forum in a diy thread where he used something that looks like that, a retractable rubber thing from a hardware store he said and he used some zip ties and used it as his dust boot? dust boots for civic are not rubber or retractable and will get in the way of my suspension setup if you know where i can get those rubber retractable ones asap universal that would be great thanks

Nearest online OEM dealer near you of which I know is www.slhondaparts.com . Go there and under "chassis" and "P.S. ... " yada find the drawing below:

The OEM parts sites call it a "tie rod dust seal." Manuals and others call it a boot, like you do. The exact one you need is likely used on several years of Civics and/or Del Sols. Thus in the alternative, after doing some research on part numbers at online OEM parts sites, you can go junkyard scrounging. Napa also sells Civic tie rod dust boots. The price is similar to the OEM parts sites. The quality may not be. Little writeup on changing them out:
http://honda.lioness.googlepages.com/steeringrenovation . I like those zip ties at the alibaba site. It is what I am using on mine now on my 93 Civic. (One of the inboard ties had to be re-tightened after the boot slipped out of place a little. Now it has been a week and so far so good.)

Where exactly did yours fail? Mine failed at the outboard end where the clip is. I am thinking too many hard turns by the previous owner.

i need mines for the shock absorber dust boot because i am using tokico blues with eibach ground controls and the oem dust boot is too long and not retractable so it gets caught and in the way i need something retractable to replace the dust boot and i think the #12 ^ from the picture above would work on good as the shock dust boot..
