97 civic ex - lights surge and the speedometer goes crazy

Default 97 civic ex - lights surge and the speedometer goes crazy

Ok so my alternator went out on my way home and I was able to charge the bat up a bit to get it home....I replaced the alternator and now the lights surge a little bit and the speedometer goes crazy when I step on the gas......please help!!!!!!!

Is 7.5A dash fuse 15 blown?

havnt checked ot yet but i will...is that tge alternator fuse?

Yes - voltage regulator. Any CEL codes? If so, click the Fuse 15 TSB in my signature.

yep that did the trick no more surges and the speedometer works...but i still have a check engine light on?

Reset the ECU to clear the codes. If the problem returns, read the TSB.

Remove the 7.5A hood Back Up fuse for 3 or more minutes.

do i remove it when its running or when its off..and the back light fuse is located under the hood right

ok so i did all that and everythimg seemed fine but i let it run for about 3 min and the fuse for the alternator keeps poping...i dont know whats cousing it...i checked all the fuses and found the cooling fan fuse under the hood 20amp was poped as well..so i replaced it and the alternator fuse and started up it ran beautful for another 3 min then the alt fuse blew again?????????????????but the cooling fan was still good so i shut it off and banged my head on the wall please help

Why not try the fix and find out? It will either correct the issue or not. Wondering about it won't get it repaired.

It's an extremely common problem. That's how I guessed it in post #2 and guided you to the TSB.
