96 EX Insturment Cluster in 2000 Si??
So the honda dealer tells me that my 2000 EM1 shares the wiring harness's from the civic EX. I know the 98+ EX is the same, but is the 96-98 harness's going to be the same??
I need to replace the insturment harness because the previous owner fucked it up pretty bad. I've found one out of a 96 EX and was hoping that might work! Thanks!

No, they are different from 96-98 and 99-00. A DX one will work for the tach but I don't think they have power locks/windows wired in. just get a 99-00 EX or SI harness.

The instrument harnesses should all be the same 96-2000. There are differences between some of the other harnesses.
Edit: I just looked up the numbers and they are different between the DX and the EX/Si but IDK why. I have a EX cluster in my DX with no problems. If you are worried about absolute interchange find a EJ8 or EM1 harness.

2000 EX "intrument" harness 32117-S04-C02
2000 EX "cabin" harness 32100-S02-A42
2000 EX "floor" harness 32107-S03-A44
1996 EX "intrument" harness 32117-S04-L10
1996 EX "cabin" harness 32100-S02-A40
1996 EX "floor" harness 32107-S03-A31
Those are different part numbers. My understanding was EX/SI are the same for the 99-00. Intrument may be the same in the DX but cabin is not.
96-98 are all different then 99-000 due to the OBD2A vs. ODB2B.
That is my understanding and I provided some part numbers. The numbers are different. Don't believe me go here and check.

OBD2A vs. OBD2B, all the wiring harnesses are different. if you use a 99 engine harness in a 96 body(unless HX I think, they are all OBD2A) even if they are the same engine/model they will not work. I know the same goes for cabin harnesses, I can only assume the same for instrument.

it says the only interchangeable instrument harnesses for a 99-00 si are 99-00 lx/ex/si. i am assuming it's because of the indicator for cruise control, along with the various differences for obd2a vs obd2b.

Re: 96 EX Insturment Cluster in 2000 Si??
They probably have ABS indicator leads too since the ABS control module is separate. This makes the most sense.
It's kinda funny how they make some parts of their harnesses interchangeable and some not. A DX (and assuming CX as well) has accommodation for tach even though it isn't standard or even an option, same with the auto select indicators but not the cruise or ABS. The engine compartment harness has accommodation for fog lights but not the VTEC and knock sensor leads.
Is it that big of a deal to build completely different harnesses for the sake of just a handful of wires? Well, with the cost of copper these days multiplied by the large number of harnesses produced.... perhaps.

LX, EX or Si<-redline is different. You can also use a 1st gen CR-V. Or a 3rd gen Integra but it might require moving around some pig tail pins.

Sweet!! I thought I was going to need to Frankenstein that harness to get it to work. Will be buying Si cluster then for future b16 swap.
