96 Civic EX GSR Swap Sputtering...
I have a 1996 Civic EX With a GSR Swap Old School skunk2 manifold intake stock manifold and stock exhaust including cat no check engine lights. The car for the pass few weeks has been sputtering when it gets around 3,000rpm the car wont get out of its own way and if i put clutch in and rev it up and like stays at 3,000rpm sputtering but can go over after like 2 seconds but will sputter. If I beat on it it'll sputter bad until vtec cross over will kind of smooth out but when it gets to 7grand it will sputter and sound like stuff is going through my exhaust. I have never had this problem before I'm stuck! Any help would be appreciated this is my daily driver and I'm limited to 2,500rpm so I can only get up to around 45mph on highway lol.

Also while sputtering i get exhaust into the car and its bad to the point where it burns my eyes and I need to open the windows/sunroof.

what ecu are u running? and is the car able to go over 3,000 rpms?
i would check all your fuses, check every single connection. your dizzy might be bad, off timing, the ecu.

I'm running a 99 Civic SI ECU. The Wires to my dizzy were converted to obd-2 and seem to be a little wet. The car is able to go over 3,000rpms VERY VERY SLOWLY Sputtering like crazy it bogs out and my eyes start to burn from the exhaust. But it's been doing this before my wires were lil wet. The car is on timing for sure. The 02's wouldnt cause this would it? I heard I have to repin them or something for a gsr in 96 civic with b16 ecu?

Is the smell your smelling a normal exhaust smell, or smell more like fuel than normal? Also, does the engine sputter all the time, or is it just when it gets up to temperature?
For what it's worth, I did a JDM OBD2 B18C swap in a '94 SI using the OBD2 ECU with a jumper harness, and was running rough with a sometimes overwhelming smell of exhaust/fuel. I went ahead and replaced the O2 sensor and ran some fuel injector cleaner in a fresh tank of Premium fuel. This was 3000 miles ago and (knock on wood) no more problems.

did you check to see if all the wires on the dizzy have good contact? and check the cap and rotor for corrosion?

There's no tune on the ecu it's a stock 99 SI ECU. Having a b16 ecu instead of a gsr will not make it sputter like it is. I can't really get over 3,000rpms if i floor it if I were to it will take forever only way I can really do so is from 5th down shift to 3rd going around 45mph and i can get above it and it will keep going and will struggle until vtec cross over and it's sorta fine but then does the same thing around 7,000rpms.
