Default 96-00: Is the 3dr license plate trim moulding interchangable with the 2dr trunk?

Hi HT,

Looong time lurkin', always finding answers via search, so I never had a reason to sign up. Here's my concern...

I have a 2000 cx silver. I've hated the factory black trim body pieces, so I've replaced these items (mirrors, handles, door mouldings, etc) from other OEM vogue silver civics, for that clean oem look

Now I want to address the black license plate moulding on the hatch. I compared part numbers between a 2dr DX and 3dr DX hoping the rear license plate trims were identical, however the part numbers were in fact different. I've heard (word of mouth) that a 2dr license plate trim will fit on a hatch, however I have not confirmed this. Comparing the illustrations in the parts fiche I swear it would fit. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

And before you say, just take your trim and get it painted... that's not what I'm after. FYI, Honda sells factory Vogue Silver license plate trim for the EX coupe for under $50. The idea is to have a brand new OEM painted perfect match for my hatch which involves simply a bolt-on process, all for the cost of $50

Take yours off And try it on a 2dr then you'll know. I just painted mine. Not hard.

1. I don't own a 2dr nor do I know anyone that owns one.

2. I don't own a paint spray setup. If you just rattle-can painted yours, then you're already in a thread you don't belong. I'm looking for quality, not garbage.

3. I know it isn't hard, but I'm not 16 anymore, so it needs not look like shyt. Which is why I took the time to elaborate on WHY I want Honda OEM paint, not the Advance Auto Ricer Especial.

I know someone out there knows this exact answer from some experience or another. Clownshoes with answers to questions other than this thread's...start your own thread

I can rattle can paint anything. All prep. You saying that you suck that bad at painting? Have someone do it then. Oh and I'm 27 not 16 nor do I shop at dumb auto stores like you refer. The piece isn't that big. Stop crying over it

You're on a public forum with 2 posts and saying someone don't belong. Guess what welcome to the Internet

You're**** 27? A decade older than myself but picking fights online? Give it up, if you're not aiding in tech-assistance then you're just encouraging a pointless argument. I'm wasting my time pointing it out for you. Guess what, grow up

edit: OP's very clear on what he's requesting,
*And before you say, just take your trim and get it painted... *

Reason why part numbers are different are cuz one is painted. What's the part numbers? 1st section of the part number should be the same. If so it fits I believe

CO671, slow down man. You didn't even give me a chance to thank you for the link you provided. I found the thread that your linked post referred to and there was in fact some useful information. If this hatch was of a '96-'97 (pre-hatch-handle), the license garnish should bolt up. Reading that thread and taking a trip to the car I've found there is actually four bolts holding in my garnish, two on each side of the handle. It was actually the illustration that was wrong. I should have considered I have a handle on my hatch and noticed that the illustration didn't take this into account.

Look, post count and age has nothing to do with this. I've been on HMT for years and have built numerous Hondas, as many of us here. The same reasons I've always been reluctant to post on HT have once again shown themselves here. What I mean is, I was quite explicit in my original post to what I was asking and why. I stated concisely why I was looking at the OEM part and not spray. I don't care about Marvin's painting skills, let the man paint the world with rattle-can. But Marvin's original response was pointless. It offered no useful information, didn't answer any of the original questions. He could have just as easily read the thread and clicked back like the 26 viewers before him. Had he done that, CO671 would have had the first response, would have provided a VERY useful link, and the thread would be resolved with a definitive answer. Instead, everyone got their feathers ruffled for what?

I stated my OP so nice and clear, Marvin added nothing, I responded with why nothing is unhelpful, CO671 offered the first valuable information, Marvin needed to defend his rattle-can skills, CO671 read too quick, backed up the wrong post, and then edited after realizing such, all while I was outside taking my license garnish off the car to confirm the illustration used was wrong. lol Good job guys, let's wrap it up.

'96-'97 hatches can use the coupe trim, '98-'00 hatches cannot due to the incorporated handle. All fun aside, thanks CO671 for the link about the Raybrig garnish, it was useful. I look forward to my further HT threads

i can tell you from first hand experience, they're slightly different, and won't fit.
i have a hatchback and bought an EX (2dr) one, and figured the top part where the latch is to open up the hatch is different from the two

Then it seems it must get painted.

Mikekh10a, is your hatch '98-'00? Just curious because after reading about that uber-rare Raybrig garnish it seems it should work with '96-'97 hatches as they don't have the hatch handle.

Er. It said in the linked thread that it didn't fit.

I own a hatch and a coupe and can tell you just by looking that it doesn't.
