B16 Swap Car runs like crap
The engine i bought, has been sitting surran wrapped and covered in 2 tarps, i saw it with my own eyes. And my sisters 4 year BF sold it to me. So its been sitting correctly i guess, but i think its sat for 3-7 years. ill come back to that^
So as some of you know i was having a power problem in my b16sir II so i did a compression test and the results were pretty low for a b16 especially with cams. So i decided to do a swap. Heres the info: Previous motor used the original eg cx harness and wired. It has a chipped p28ecu no nock sensor or o2 sensor, New swap obd1 gsr harness same ecu, Only thing i dont have is the intake piping sensor wired up, and there is no sensor on the intake next to the fuel rail on the top of the manifold. im not sure if this has to do with my problem, OH i almost forgot to say what my problem was.... It starts and runs if you give it gas, the check engine light is of course on.. the timing on the cams are perfect and the timing on the ignition is perfect, but it wont stay running and it shakes. I used my tethiscope to listen for any unusual sounds and it all sounds good under the hood. i did a compression test and in order from 1-4 i got 190, 175, 135, 201 i believe cylinder 3 the pistons are just stuck from sitting for so long, so if i run it long enough the compressions should go up if thats the prob. now this engine was guaranteed to run because when my sisters bf bought it from some jdm motor import company the had a video of the compression and paper work guaranteeing it for a year.
So from the sounds of the engine and what it does im thinking its wiring, ecu, or a sensor not working or wired up<. I have a lot of time and money invested in this engine and i really hope there is a simple solution. Any info will be great, also to clear things up all wires cap rotor plugs belts blah blah its all new..
Thanks HT.

Re: B16 Swap Car runs like crap
So i can decipher the codes this way? https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/how-pull-cel-d4-srs-abs-codes-code-lists-1901557/ I never knew of that :O at school we just use a scan tool.. but my car is not operational, its still in pieces. No shift linkage in yet no exhaust "running a down pipe" and no axles. waiting tell i get the engine running perfect before i spend all the time putting the axles and stuff back in. I really wanna get some codes pulled tonight but its kinda late right now. I will check tomorrow and see what i can come up with. Hopefully its nothing serious and i will be able to figure it out.
Oh and Thanks for giving me the idea of searching "How To Retrieve CEL Codes honda" I honestly was stuck and didnt know what to do from where i was at.

Oh and if you could maybe create a video of the motor running and what noises its making it may help us understand a little more. Good luck.

Re: B16 Swap Car runs like crap
I mean it might just be me but I think you are starting a little to big; running the code is fine but if it's wiring, a lot of times the code isn't going to pinpoint the issue. Always start small and work to bigger things, I had a problem with my fuel system when I rebuilt my B16 on my 2000 Si. Because I started small and check all fuses and relays and continuity to the fuel pump, I saved myself a lot of time and money. Let me know what code you throw.
Oh and if you could maybe create a video of the motor running and what noises its making it may help us understand a little more. Good luck.

But after i fix the ghetto wiring i will pull the codes and post them up with the video so you guys can help me
I really appreciate all the info/help thanks guys. ill work on that video and wiring after i get home from school.

Re: B16 Swap Car runs like crap
injectors don't like to sit for long periods of time try swapping the injectors from your other motor in and put a very small amount of oil in the cly and roll the motor over with the plugs out then recheck compression

Re: B16 Swap Car runs like crap
Heres what i got
10 IAT - intake air temperature sensor
looks like i will be wiring that up
And
14 IAC (EACV) - idle air control valve
I will have to look into that one, not sure if i put the wrong plug in it? or didnt connect the hoses idk..
and im uploading a video for those of you who are interested in hearing it, and deciphering the codes yourself.

Re: B16 Swap Car runs like crap
ok so i had the wrong plug plugged into the iac, plugged the correct one in and WOW what a difference, im working on wiring the iat up. I'm sure that would also make a differernce. Im still concerned about the compression. But it could just be a valve was stuck from sitting for so long idk. will seafoam it or something. its kinda shaky too any ideas? silicone the mounts? what silicone?

Ok all codes are gone no check engine light, except it runs weird after i hooked up the IAT. like it barely idles it sounds cammed out yo. it idle bumps too. i wired it in without reseting the ecu tho so haha thats probably why.

Re: B16 Swap Car runs like crap
ok i see, so it does go in D22, theres like 5 other wires that splice into it. I just need to splice the sensor wire. Easy deal, Thank you everyone for your help. the cel codes helped narrow stuff down a lot.

Re: B16 Swap Car runs like crap
Ok got the cat on. This car hauls *** Vtec kicks in very smoothly and it feels like im running a 5psi turbo, im telling yah 60psi in the cylinders makes a big difference. another problem, if anyone can help, when i turn my wheels go clunk clunk clunk. Sounds like my axles, but why would it do that?
