93 civic eg d16y8 p28 could use help...
Been running the stock d16y8 in my 93 EG bubble now for a few months and I'm having some issues. The ECU was for an auto, but I followed the instructions and converted it to manual.
The car will randomly start running rich, (REALLY RICH) and surging at idle. The check engine light will come on but as soon as I turn the car off and try to read the code it clears. So, I can't get a code...
Then the car will run correct again.
Also, it seems if I leave the paperclip in the car runs the best. I'm guessing causes it's defaulting to base?
I have a new TPS ordered thinking that maybe the original one is having issues causing the problems.

Bottom line if you don't want to guess you will need to get the code. So to be clear are you saying you turn the car off, go through the code retrieval process and there are no codes? Or are you turning the car off and assuming there are no codes once you turn the key because the CEL doesn't get triggered again? Those are two very specific things that are not the same.

The issue always seems to happen when wife is driving it. I get home, go to check code and there is no check engine light no code. Put the paper clip in , nothing.
I drove it today, left the paperclip in and the car is driving better than it ever has.
Makes me wonder if the ecu itself is flaky.
