1999 Civic LX D16Y7 bone stock cold start issues
A little history on the car:
1999 Civic LX 210,xxx miles
D16Y7 automatic(bone stock)
No CEL, no codes stored in ECU
Just replaced the spark plugs(NGK V power) and fuel filter. The problem still exisits.
This only happens when its cold, I.E., sitting over night. Go out to start it and it will crank over longer than usual, start up and die. Go through this 2-3 times, finally step on accelerator to raise the RPM's and hold it around 2000rpm for 15-20 seconds, then it idles, warms up and runs fine all day.
Things I have checked, spark plug wires, measured within specs via Ohm meter, grounds, sensor connections. Aside from the cold start issue, the car runs like a top, got 35-36mpg calculated at last fill up. I have only had this car for a month, got it for the wife to use as a commuter, instead of racking up miles on her 2008 5.7 Durango. I would like to figure out what is going on with the civic soon for her.
Thanks for any help,
Tim

Inspect the contact points inside the distributor and on the rotor. Look for any wear or corrosion. Also clean the IACV. Then go from there.

hey tlarimer... did you ever resolve this problem? I am going through the same thing now only mine won't start at all like its not getting any fuel. Any help would be great!
*edit* my car is a 99 ex, 170k. car ran great as of yesterday, would not start today at all. battery is good, new gas as of yesterday and when I try to start it, it just sounds like it wont catch. so here's the real head scratcher... its only 44 degrees outside this morning and it threw a code. I tried to check the code but when I put the jumper in it wont flash the check engine light to read off the code?? also when I disconnect the ecu it will not reset the code?! any ideas at all would be extremely helpful!!
