I went from a 15 to a 16 and I won't go back. The only thing that sux is the lack of good tire selection for a good price.

Ok so a 2 inch round ball sitting on a flat surface, has the same amount of contact patch as a 20 foot round ball.
If you dont belive me take alittle ball and paint it,then it roll. Then take a bigger ball do the same the bigger ball will leave more paint on the ground as it rolls.

:sigh: That's the worst analogy I've ever heard. We aren't talking about sphere's here. We are talking about tires. a 225mm wide tire is a 225mm wide tire. Just because the hole in the center is a diffent size doesn't mean anything.

true you have to look at the overall diameter of the tire . . .
225 45 15 = ~22.9" diameter
225 40 16 = ~23.1" diameter
the footprint difference is so minor it's not worth mentioning. Now if you do run a 225 45 13 and compare it to a 225 45 15 it's going to be different, but who the hell would run a 225 45 13?
BTW for sh*ts and giggles:

Wheels are +43 offset I believe (I gotta double check it could be +45) and the brakes barley clear (wheels design plays a small part in fitment and 16's with these brakes).</TD></TR></TABLE>

Ok. Just to make sure everyone understands let me brake this down.
On a 225/45/15 for example. 225 is the width of the tire in mm. 45 is "aspect ratio". Basically whatever this is is a percentage of the width. So in this case the sidewall of the tire is 45% of the width (225). So basically this tire has a sidewall of 101.25mm's. The last number is obviously the rim diameter. So the last number and the middle number is going to negate the the overal height and diameter of the tire.
Now a 225mm tire is a 225mm tire. What's going to change this is rim width. A 225 tire on a 15x6 rim vs a 15x8 going to change somewhat. Same as a 225 tire on a 13x6 vs a 13x8. But you take 2 8" wide rims one 13 and one 15 and put a 225 tire on them, contact patch is the same.
Picture a cylinder. A doughnut if you will for easier to imagine. Just because you cut that center hole out and make it a little bigger, doesn't mean the width changes.

What I have gathered over my few years of reading threads like this is the performance really isn't an issue. The 16" will have a nicer sidewall profile while the 15" is lighter, they basically cancel out.
I'd stick with 15" simply for the amount of tires available at a good price.

That's just overall diameter. That has absolutley NOTHING to do with the width. Let's say I take two 13" tires. One 225/40/13 and one 225/45/13. Contact patch is the same. However the overall diameter is differnt due to differnt sidewall sizes. I.E. better gearing on the 225/40 for better accleeration. NOT contact patch.

no that's wrong . . . contact patch is the same width, but since the overall diameter is different then the lenth of the contact patch is slighlty different. The contact patch is rectangular based on width of the tire and overall diameter
