Re: 00 Civ stolen twice, what to do?
My friends and I decided to see if a thief would actually get into my friends Honda Civic SI 00. So we put a fuel line kill switch, 2 way pager.
TIP!! Locking the steering wheel is a amazing idea. On the click of a button, screws go into the steering wheel to lock it in place. My idea lol.
The car was broken into once, at that point, his pager went off and he went for his Winchester. (He has a license, he uses it for Large Game Hunting). Stupid thieves.
Everyone says, nothing is fool proof and that if someone wants to get into your car they will. Bull$#!^ put enough of those things in your car and noone would bother with 1 hour worth of checking and setting. Place alarms in your trunk, under the seats, anywhere you would never check.
If you live in the states, just get a gun and a 2 way pager that vibrates like mad, sleep with it so that it will wake you up. Put a huge siren under the front bumper. It will wake up the whole neighborhood. If that does not scare them away, your gun sure will lol.
3 times a charm. So watch out. Hope this helps.

Re: 00 Civ stolen twice, what to do?
Removable steering wheels are useless, but they still offer up another layer of security. Thieves can just use a vice grip to clamp down on the bare spline and it'll work for the most part. They usally bring spare fuses, an ecu, and other things to help. Most thieves scope out your car first before they steal it because they want to to see what they need when they do decide to boost it.
The best, fool proof method, is a active motion sensing GPS unit with geographical fencing protection. They can't even tow your car because if it leaves it's spot beyond it's 5ft buffer zone, you'll get notified via phone that your car has been moved without your authorization. GPS tracking units are by far the only way to prevent theft, plus it'll put thieves in jail and their chop shop because GPS tracking units will actively text you the position of the car every 1-5 minutes depending how often you want it too based on your settings. Anything else, two way pagers and stuff are just hurdles that can be bypassed if they are good enough. An active GPS unit is fail safe...just hide the brain really well.

Don't be so sure you're getting the whole car back... typically when it's been missing for over 24 hours they're actually stripping the car... you say you don't know how it happened...? It's a civic... it's popular, and no matter what you do, theft is alway a possibility, especially when you haven't done much to protect it... It depends on how much you care for the car, if you aren't willing to buy security pieces like a kill switch, viper replica alarm, clutch lock, etc. or take the time to apply a wheel lock daily, or unplug your sparkplug wires whenever you leave, etc then you'd be better of selling the car.

Re: 00 Civ stolen twice, what to do?
Okay, so it was stolen between 0830 and 1130 on Friday. It has now been 48 hours and there has been no notification of a recovery by the OKC Police.
Last time, it was found within 15 hours and had the stereo equipment ripped out.
However, I'm betting it was the same thieves just because of the timing was the same, the way of breaking in (from the shattered crap on the ground) appears to be the same. And, they know what the car was like, where it was at, and if it had strip value.
Basically, the interior looked and smelt new still. There were no wear/tears on the seats, dash, or anything (except steering wheel). The outside was repainted and looked new. The tires were brand-new 80,000 mile Yoshima (sure I spelt that way wrong).
So, I'm betting on no car back. Or, if anything, I hope it's more than $3,000 in damages so I can just get the money and replace it with something else that isn't as theft popular.
What do you all think? Will it probably turn up? Or has chop time been long enough to dismantle all of it?
This sucks. I'm sure they enjoyed steeling a car marked veteran on it. Always take from someone whose been to hell a couple times to make your illegitimate life better...

Re: 00 Civ stolen twice, what to do?
It will eventually turn up, but most likely in pieces... That's just the truth. What was the purpose of your civic? Was it your pride and joy or was it just transportation?
Sorry you're having to go through this by the way, my 2000 civic si got impounded a few months ago and i couldn't afford to get it out of the police impound so i lost it... but no matter, since i just got a d.i.p. charge and my license is getting revoked so I know how you feel.
Hope it turns up soon.

Re: 00 Civ stolen twice, what to do?
Yeah, it was my pride and joy but became transportation for my wife.
My primary concern is retrieving the license plate off of it, so I hope it's dumped and located within a few days. I don't know how long it takes for them to get what they want and discard it.
The plate belongs to the US Military and I really am dreading the reports for filing for the loss due to theft. I'd love nothing more than to get a call saying the trunk lid was found in a ditch with the plate on it.
Oh well. Some fight for their country while others steal their belongings.

another good idea is rerunning the hood cable cause it sets in the fender well thats how they got past my alarm. now i have a breaker switch that no one can find kills all the power in the car

theres some really good guides and stuff you can do, the truth is theives have a way around everything, so the key is to stack up as much security as you can.
but for the love of god, get a freakin garage people. holy ****. that would avoid so many thefts, and if you have enough theft deterent trickery attached and dont leave your car unattended too long during the day it is pretty much theft proof.
i also know a lot of people who shell out 30 a month for gps tracking, my thought on that is i dont know if it works when they throw it in a garage to strip it so i havnt looked into it myself. anyone know?

If my civic was stolen twice, i'd sell it. Then buy something that's not a honda. Fortunately honda theft isn't that much of a problem in my area.

Re: 00 Civ stolen twice, what to do?
wow i never knew there was that much of a problem with honda theft. That sucks to have your car stolen twice. Where i live you just leave your doors unlocked and the windows rolled down for the most part. I think i have only had two stereos stolen in my lifetime. That sucks but someone needed it worse than me is the way i think of it. And karma does come back around..

Re: 00 Civ stolen twice, what to do?
Well thanks for all opinions. I was hoping it would be like the first time and I could just go all-out security on it. But, it's nearing 72 hours so I'm betting it won't be found.
As far as the garage statement goes, I'd love that but the great American treatment of veterans with pay isn't as good as one might think. I'm trying to go to school while living on my benefits. So, my available rental cash doesn't meet the extra 100/mo threshold to have an apartment with a garage or a duplex with a garage.
Some of us are a bit poorer than some, and get cars stolen. I'm glad I protected the thieves rights that afford him such an easy life of crimem.

Re: 00 Civ stolen twice, what to do?
Always do. But, what's interesting is that both thefts occurred between 800 and 1130 am. Well-lit areas aren't an issue when it's broad-daylight, morning hours.

Re: 00 Civ stolen twice, what to do?
it'll eventually turn up man, wether it's been dumped in a parking lot or pulled over randomly, it will be found... if they're amateurs, it would have turned up within 24 hours with a missing stereo and maybe a missing intake or something, but since it's been missing so long, I'd say you're looking at more than just a missing stereo... to protect it, this is what i'd say, since it's what i did when i had my si. wheel lock, steering wheel lock, clutch lock, throttle lock, used rear door handles for the front so the only way to open the door was with the alarm, viper alarm with kill switch, unplug the sparkplug wires at night, and block the car in my driveway at night.... it's all about how much the car is worth to you, and i absolutely loved my si... still, good luck with finding it :/

Okay well it has been 10+ days since it was stolen. Geico will initiate a pay out on Feb 4 if it is not recovered by then. What is the likelihood that a car in immaculate condition for a 2000 is going to be in repairable condition (no more than $3,500 to repair) at this point?
I'm thinking it's been dismantled? Or, in Mexico?

I know a coupleof people that take out there main relays(easy on egs, not so much on eks), unplug the computer, or just remove the 15 amp ECU fuse under the hood
