Re: [FAQ] Your Guide to Buying Quality Aftermarket Maintenance Parts for your Civic
chiming in to bash gates and moog. my last gates water pump gave out after 5 years/about 50k miles.
prior to that i had 3 gates pumps that made it to 90k with no issues.
the moog ball joint i bought had a ridiculously thin boot on it. both brands used to be quality but are now are now made in china apparently.
now running a bando timing belt (made in germany) and npw water pump (japan). wouldve gone with aisin
pumps but cant find one for gs-r engine. mitsuboshi timing belt is another good option.
check out the tbk kits with high quality mostly japanese parts:
special shout out to denso for great quality and (mostly) reasonable prices.

Yeah, it's a old thread. Oldie but a goody . I can say aptech manufacred the 97 civic sedan windshield. For some reason the coupe has a different manufacturer and is or was not available. I was able to use the aptech windshield with the oem rubber instead of the supplied aptech molding. The Honda molding is soft and pliable unlike all the aftermarket glass with the molding. The aptech also had great clarity vs other aftermarket windshields. I can't figure out how to post pics on ht but if you have a 96-00 civic you probably know what I am talking about. The driver side molding often is not in the window frame completely and pops out .

I tried installing the oem links, and could not get them to tighten down.
I ended up with the Moogs that have grease zerks.

Hey bro, new here. I always use Bosch for oil filter... You should put that in. And as far as coolant, do you have a recommendation? Thanks

Re: [FAQ] Your Guide to Buying Quality Aftermarket Maintenance Parts for your Civic
Anyone use 1A Auto parts? They have a pair of lower ball joints with castle nuts and split pins for $34.99, while a single Honda LBJ from hondapartsnow is around $55, not including the castle nut or split pin (another $7 or so for both). There are even cheaper ones on rockauto but haven't heard of some of those companies/brands.

I'd look to compare the brand instead of the seller. 1aauto does make some nice youtube videos.
I bought Moog for my Ford truck, but some here are pretty negative on Moog.

Thoughts on tie rod ends? I guess it fits into the "ball joint" bucket, where I was directed to Moog for my Ford truck, but others here are saying "no!" to Moog for the Civic. Thoughts?

Unfortunately I wasn't able to determine what brand ball joint 1A Auto is selling. I just went ahead and ordered the Honda lower ball joints from acuraexpressparts.com.

Hi guys,
1996 Civic DX w/ 113K miles.
I read the post re ball joints (Sankei 555 & Moog no longer recommended)
as I will need to replace my tie rod ends and lower ball joints at some point.
I found Sankei 555 ball joints and tie rods at Partsgeek.com:
https://www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts...-01072584.html
Not much diff in price (Majestichonda.com) between the tie rod ends but
about 20$ diff in price when comparing lower ball joints. Did not find the Sankei 555
TREs at Rock Auto. Although I did find the Aisin TKH005 timing belt kits!

Re: [FAQ] Your Guide to Buying Quality Aftermarket Maintenance Parts for your Civic
I recently bought Sankei 555's for my wifes care earlier this year. They seem decent.
I think you have to worry when you open the box and don't find Sankei product inside. People return **** all the time with alternate product so to get their money back and return inferior cheaper product they bought elsewhere but didn't want to use.
Autopartsway so far has been a quality parts warehouse. It seems they do pretty decent QA control for both parts going out as well as returned product. I haven't received any miss boxed product to date.

Just purchased Timken bearings off rock auto. For a 96-00 Civic Ex. They're stamped with Japan and Koyo on them. I guess they're repackaged koyos. Pn#510030.
This brand is exempt from the list for being made in China, ymmv, mine were made in Japan.

Re: [FAQ] Your Guide to Buying Quality Aftermarket Maintenance Parts for your Civic
bought an intermotor ignition switch about 5 years ago, was a good replacement at the time.
time for a new one so just bought another. total junk so now bought a genuine which is honda oem in a white box. already bought a genuine oil pan, came in a honda box at reasonable price and is working well . autopartsway has a fair amount of genuine stuff so check it out.

Yeah I get a fair amount of OEM from Autoparts way. Starting to get a little more difficult to find 5th gen parts though even there. :/

Any suggestions on clutch master/slave cylinders?
Recently purchased Exedy but the master failed a month later and both the original and warranty replaced slave leaked at the bleeder screw.

^^ Agreed. Bought a Dorman replacement slave and it also sucked. My original was fine, I was just thinking preventative maintenance. I was wrong and made it worse. Note you can replace the leaky bits in the master and keep your OEM Nissin.
