Default Value of a clipped Honda Civic EX w Navi 2006

So,

My mother had a nice accident that took out the suspension on the drivers side, and the sub frame that was part of it.

Interestingly, the engine seems fine, all of the air bags are good, the head unit / Navi is good, the electrical system looks like its perfect...

...it's just not worth fixing after you add the labor.

Anyone have any idea how I determine was the wreck is actually worth?

I don't have the time to part it out... But I'm certain that the engine, trans, air bags, navi system, interior, electrical system (ECU/TCM, etc), and rest if the car are worth a fair amount of bucks.

(I'm in north jersey.)

If and when the insurance company totals it out, they will give you a check.

Usually you can buy back the car, for 25% of what the check was written for.

So, if it's an 06 ex and they want to pay you $8000, then they will reduce the check to $6000 and you'll be responsible to tow the car home.

I would not mess with it and I would take the $8000.

Can't imagine it being worth a whole lot, those engines are junk especially if it's that old and has never had short block done under warranty. They don't all have issues...but we don't stock 1-2 short blocks at work for nothing. GL

So I gather the transmissions don't wear out, the Navi is rare and never breaks, and the majority of the rest of the car, though flawless, it really not worth much?

(I'm being serious. Oh, the the lower half has never been replaced under warranty...)

Impossible to place a value on a damaged car without pics. Check eBay for parts prices to get an idea of what it could be parted out for. The airbags are worth a few bucks. Body components can be worth something if you find the right person. Don't know how much the OEM navi is really worth. You can get aftermarket stuff that's better for not much money.

If you we're in Northern California some random Hispanic wood def by this, we get soooo many of them coming in for parts to rebuild crashed auction cars. Not intended to be racist, it's just what I've observed, in Sacramento it's the same but Russians haha

Well,

I know if I parted it out I'd get quite a bit of cash for it.

At this point I'm just going up tell her to take the $2k for it she got an offer for it, and walk away.

Ask the insurance how much you can buy it off for? Sometimes it could be less then 25%. assuming they give you something..since its in the front and likely her fault. good luck.. you could debone it and sell it on craiglist per pieces. etc.

Dude, when you have to qualify your racist remarks, it means that you know that you're doing something hurtful, wrong, and you just don't care.

I'm working on a salvaged '09 Si (should be completely done within a month). I previously had an '08 salvaged Si that I drove for three years (bought it with 2,500 miles back in '08). The time/labor I put into a car is worth the savings in price.

OP: I think $2K is a fair price. I wouldn't expect for it to sell for more than about $2-2.5k at a Copart auction, and Copart takes a percentage of the sale as commission. The car has roughly $1k in airbags/seatbelts, another roughly $1k in body parts (quarter panels, doors, etc). The radiator, suspension, and other misc parts are worth a few bucks as well, but not all that much. For the body parts like quarter panels, you have to find the right buyer. Whoever buys the car expects to make a profit on the parts, as well.
