rough downshifting? please help!
Hey guys I recently bought a 2007 silver EX (automatic). Is it normal that new civics downshift consistently when slowing down? Also, when I'm slowing down and hit about 5mph, the downshift from 2nd to 1st jerks the car somewhat and almost feels like a light brake shutter. Anybody have the same problems or can tell me what's going on? Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention that this has been a consistent matter since I drove it off the lot, and the dealer claims that it's normal (although they've never actually driven my car before).

it's normal. If you are driving super slow and letting the car drop from 25 mph all the way to a complete stop, you'll feel the jerk when it downshift itself.
But if you are breaking while slowing down, then no jerk at all.
With m/t people actually downshift to slow down because of this so they can save some of the brake pad. How much does it save? I have no clue.

this concept i don't understand
although, you may be correct but i just dont see the logic behind it
if you downshift every gear just to increase the life of the brake pads
aren't you wearing down the clutch in its place since its being used more frequently?
i would think changing the brake pads is MUCH easier than changing the clutch

I don't understand either that's why I don't know how much pads they actually saves. But I heard people do it that way, why? They say it saves the break pads...

Actually I feel it when im braking at a stop light. I've never actually tried slowing down without using the brakes. Do you guys think I should contact the dealer again?

If you think yours is just not right, can always request a test drive on a new one at the dealership and see if it does the same thing. If it doesn't, then tell the dealership say "hey look I just drove this new one here on your lot and it doesn't crazy downshifts like mine"
I bet if you do that they can't say it's normal then.

that or just not enough fluid to build pressure in the tranny.. a little low on fluid will give you strange and rougher shifts, too low and it won't shift at all..
