Default VSA bad in winter?

Okay so I work at a Mazda dealership and seeing as we got almost a footof snow yesterday, we got on the topic of traction control of course.. I had a few ppl tell me to turn it off.. They say it wears down the brakes and such... True or false? I thought it just cuts back your throttle to keep it from slipping or something like that.. I dont Think it uses the brakes like they say :s

the vsa does indeed use your brakes, but not at a degree in which you need to worry about wear. when it comes to winter driving, vsa won't help much during acceleration, but definitely will help under braking. have a read on hondas vsa system.

I would shut it off for winter driving conditions, if you are an experienced winter driver you know more than that system does about driving in your town or city.

I think the system might be good for people without winter driving experience, but would frustrate most older more experienced(seat of the pants driving) people.
