orange light at the upper tier
i just noticed that there is an orange light by the upper tier of my 08 civic. i remember the manual mentioned something abt the security system, but didnt bother to read abt it. i know there is the anti-theft light by the audio system, but never noticed the orange light until this evening.. what is it anyway?

Re: (exhaust_note)
not the blue courtesy light by the dome light/sunroof controls. btw, i wanted to know what that light is for also.. but, i am actually referring to the orange light by the upper tier (where the speedometer) is at. this light blinks once you lock your doors.

It just indicates your car is locked/alarmed. The other light is the shift light and the one by the sunroof just shines on your shifter.

No. The car is not equipped with a true alarm. You could kick on the car and bash in the windows all day and the alarm won't go off.

Has this ever been proven to be its use (to shine on the shifter). I've read this before but it doesn't seem to make sense - go look at your car at night and see how it shines on it. All it does is put this stupid little red dot on the shifter, which looks dumb imo. I've thought about covering it up because of that reason alone.

Go look at an Accord or an odyssey, same thing, lights up the shifter in both.

Re: (civic-cpe)
That's all it is, the OEM version of blue led interior lightings.
go get some blue leds and put it below steering wheel and the glove box and if you got navi put that in blue color too. Now you have a bluish interrior driving at night.
Blue is better than red I think. I saw one study on TV about the mood color, and the result was blue gives you a sense of balance, and red makes you get excited and lose balance or something like that. But it has been so long, so don't quote me on that.

Re: (yuning83)
thats true, red is just the natural color of agressiveness and anger and blue is just more calm. thats why when you're sad people say you've got the blues.
