Default Grinding/Scratching noise coming from brakes?

Hi Everyone,

For a few weeks now my car has been making a squeaky noise but to mean it sounds like its coming from the front right tire. Sometimes the noise goes away but everytime i backup the squeaking is there.

Yesterday a new noise happened. It sounded like a grinding or scratching noise everytime i use the brakes. It sounds terrible and my car isn't very old at all. Its a 2008 Honda Civic and bought it Oct 2007. What could be the problem? Will the factory warranty cover something like this?

Thanks!

B

Bring it to the dealer. It could just be worn out/dirty pads.

Brakes are considered a wear-item, so they may not cover it under warranty.

You definitely need new brake pads! The squeaky noise was the warning tab telling you that your brake pads are low, and the grinding noise is the brake shoes telling you (and your rotors) that there is no brake pad material left. You are rubbing metal on metal and ruining your rotors!

Factory warrant does not cover new brake pads. Replace them immediately....I recommend using Hawk HPS pads.

As others have stated, it sounds like your discs are worn. How many miles do you have on the car? In some cases, a rock stuck between the disc and rotor can make a squeaking and grinding noise (specially if it is really bad and only on one side). I am not sure how many miles they claim the disc's are good for, but if your around 30K or above, it is likely disc's. If your well under that, check for a rock, or screw or something between the disc and rotor.

If it is the disc's, get them changes ASAP. As mentioned, discs are wear parts and not covered, but if you continue to drive on bad disc's and groove your rotors to the point where they need to be replaced, there is a chance the dealer might claim the rotor wear is YOUR fault for not servicing the brakes in a timely fashion. The wear tabs on the discs are of a softer metal then the rotor, but the tab can still damange the rotors beyond repair if not addressed promptly.

Good Luck

When I said shoe, I meant the base plate for the pad

I think you meant to say pad everywhere you said disc.
