Considering all the talk around here, this is probably interesting to a great number of us.

Nice. Some numbers changed. Some stayed the same. Overall I dont think it will fail as bad as people think.

Im still loyal to the 00 Si but I am interested in the potential of the new K24 power train that the 2012 Si are equipped with. The car itself i realy dont care about that.

If all you want is the motor, the only good part is the fact that it displaces 2.4l. It does not share interchangeablity with other k-series heads or trannys

seems like he didn't feel as "connected" with the '12. putting a 3-lobe k24 motor in the new si however gives it such enormous potential. look at some of the numbers people have put out with stock cammed tsx motors. i'm sure it won't take much more than bolt-ons w/ kpro to put this car up around 240+ whp which would change the driving experience a lot.

thats exactly what i am thinking, not only the motor but the tranny seems promissing with a shorter 5th and 6th than the previous k-trannies and LSD equiped i think the '12 Si has some promise, but i guarantee honda will rape with the price tag

should be around the 20k mark i'm assuming? not much different from the previous gen si's. i wonder how they'll sell with all the new competition right around the same price tag.

I wish Honda would get off there a$$ and start putting these SI's at the dealers.

The cars that are showing up at the dealers here are nice but I don't want ex coupes and sedans, so far I like the look of the Polished metal, and black coupes best of all.

Come on Honda send out some SI's so I can drive one.

I saw this in GDD.

Pretty cool comparison.

It's basically going to be another round of the 06 with a TSX motor. I agree with what most of the people are saying about the engine, it has far more potential than the already potent K20. In my opinion I didn't really like the exterior styling but everything else was alright.

Without the ability to put a REAL cylinder head on it, I doubt it will come close to the potential of a k20a/z

I dont think people realize this motor is the same engine as the current engine in the tsx which only offers the three lobe vtec cam on the intake camshaft and also this engine has the exhaust manifold integrated onto the cylinder head which means no header options.

That information isn't correct, the K24 still has an external header (Honda V6's and engine found in the DX/LX/EX Civic have integrated headers) and is very similar to the normal K20 found in the RSX-S.

No, your wrong. I work in a honda dealership as a parts guys, the motor is JUST like the new tsx.
The new si cat looks very similar to the tsx, but instead of having a nice slight bend for the exit, it like a sharp 90 bend.

2012 Civic Si cylinder head part# is 12100-R40-A02, which is the same head used on
08-11 Accords
10-11 CR-Vs
09-11 TSXs

Oh I see, the new body style they switched the cylinder head over to the one with the internal exhaust manifold, that is massively lame.

good watch on the video, I haven't driven the '12 yet but personally if somebody offered me my old 99 FBP Si back over my current FA5, I'd tell them to keep it. Maybe its just cause I'm older now or I need the extra doors. But with the '12 compared to the olders I can understand where some of the reviewers complain how steering feel is.

Not impressed with this car in the least. Performance numbers are identical to the '06 Civic Si and yet the curb weight has dropped and the power and HP have increased....allegedly.....along with the price tag.

I'll keep my car.

Don't For get the Standards today compared to 2000.
Smog standards are strict so is safety.

BTW I think Honda Tech Needs a Civic 2012 - Present forum.

Mid-range and high gear response is better, however. This is what the overwhelming majority of purchasers are after, even the ones that want to shift for themselves.

It's a weird market, and Honda's not going to be able to satisfy people who post here, the people who were the purchasers of the DC2 ITR and MY 2000 Civic Si.

Along with you, I also yearn for the high revving days. But...I think they're just gone. There used to be a reason Honda designed high revving, sturdy VTEC motors, and those reasons simply do not exist.

I understand the yearning for those days, but those days are just gone.

wrong...i looked at a 2012 lx coupe and sedan a few days ago and the price tag was 19995 i would venture to say the price tag on the si will be 24+

You got it right.

Edmunds says the "fair market" purchase price of a 2012 Civic Si Coupe (with Navigation but without Summer Tyres) is $24,099.

out of the 5 cars i have owned (06 kia spectra, 10 jeep patriot, 10 f150, 00SI, and an 04 STI) my 00 SI was by far my favorite and was by far the best bag for its buck. The new SI is not only ugly it just dont impress me and for 200 hp out of a 2.4 i will gladly spend 9 more gs for a 2.5 300+ hp STI i am unimpressed with the new SI and feel Honda has failed on the new SI. just my opinion

Although I would express myself more gently, and although I probably "get it" more than you do when it comes to what the Civic Si is about, I would agree with you in general terms that Honda have the capability and technology to step up the game a little bit, and maybe it is time to do it.

As I was looking at Edmunds today to get the retail price of the Civic Si, I ran across this quote from Consumer Reports: "Honda and Subaru still build the best cars."

No quibbling, no hedging.

Honda and Subaru still build the best cars. Period. They just up and say that, publicly.

I don't think Honda would be taking all that big a risk if they moved their (admittedly expensive but totally excellent) SH-AWD systems a little farther down scale, maybe into a small performance oriented Acura or something.
