Periodic Stalling during stop

Periodic Stalling during stop
I've noticed this about ten times over the last 1.5 months: my Civic stalls when I come to a complete stop or very slow speed.
The idles just drop and sometimes the engine stalls. This is especially disconcerting when slowing to take a tight turn, as I lose power-steering.
The car is a 2001 LX with only 12k miles and recent oil change/lube.
Also, does it make sense to use the trunk for dead nígger storage?

No check engine lights or anything?
My only guess would be that you need to adjust the idle settings, because it isnt idling high enough. Either that or it needs a really good tune up.
But it shouldnt need a tune up after only 12k miles, but you never know.

My 01 EX 5 speed does the same thing. Though it never DIES it just gets to like 200 RPM and shutter's real bad, Next time I start it its fine though. Weird. I have about 70,000 miles. I've considered resetting my idle but it only does it to me like twice a month now. Is yours a 5speed?

With that, I would suggest a tune up before TOUCHING the idle settings. Spark plugs, fuel and air filters, and clean the injectors.

There is NO way to adjust idle. idle is ecu controlled. What you need to do is clean out your iacv valve with some carb cleaner. its located on the side of your throttle body.

No, it isnt controlled strictly by the ECU. The new Si is controlled by a DBW (Drive by Wire) system, and there is no way to control that one.
On our cars, we still use a cable and rotor throttle setup. Which can be physically adjusted to open or close the throttle plate more or less at idle. Heres a link.......

All filters, plugs, wires and everything are under 3,000 miles old. And I said nothing about "Adjusting" the idle, only resetting the idle, Which isn't hard to do. And if this problem happened more frequently then twice a month I'd reset it in a heartbeat. For now though ..I'll just push in the clutch when I come to a stop!

crank it up and see what your ecu does after 5 minutes.

Re: Periodic Stalling during stop (djmota)
I'm not saying you should crank all the way down on it, but jsut enough to get the idle up. It is possible to not do any damage with minute adjustments. It does not take that much.
But that is not his problem. His problem was that he wasn't pushing the clutch in when he crawled at slow speeds, or came to a stop.

Re: Periodic Stalling during stop (.Red.EM2)
Wait ...Red EM2 are you serious? I was only poking fun at what 03EM2guy said about pushing in the clutch. If I just let my car idle for like 20 seconds, sometimes it will start to drop RPM's. Like I said though, it doesn't happen often so I dont worry about it. I really think that the guy who started this thread should reset his idle via ECU. If it fix's it cool, if not then cross it off the list.

Just do a regular tune up. That SHOULD be the only reason for your sputter/stall.
