New Here....01 ex A/C problems. Please Help
Hello my name is Chad and my gf has owned her civic for 3 yrs now.
The car is an 01 civic ex 1.7 (as u all already know lol)
Last summer the ac randomly stopped working one day. Blew ice cold till the day we went to use ac and it was just hot air. I checked all around the system to find any leaks and no leaks were found.
I let the ac run and the high line is not getting hot and the low line is not getting cold like it should.
I have checked the blower motor relay, the ac condersor fan relay as well. they are both good.
I have done the self hvac diagnostic test as well and no blinking codes were present.
The car runs at a higher idle when ac button is on and both fans run like normal. When ac botton goes off the fans will stop spinning.
I have been reading around all the honda forums and I keep hearing about the thermal protector going bad. or the ecu went bad.
I am at the point where I may just buy a new ac compressor/drier kit on ebay and recharge the system bc I am running out of ideas to fix this ac system inexpensively.
Does anyone have any more ideas? my thermal protector goes to a plug right but the dryer canister and it is a single wire connector.
Thank you so much, Chad

Well im not a pro by any means but ive had plenty of Civics in my day, you wont see freon leaks, but with your problems it seems that the compressor isnt kicking on.

ya i cant tell if it is or not. I iknow the main pully on the compressor is spinning but with the fans going and motor running i cant tell if it is kicking on. I cant seem to get any pressure when I hook up a stupid thing from autozone.

Well if your not showing any pressure you may have a bad leak somewhere, the cheapest way to tst this for sure would be to refill the freon and see what happens, if it leaks out quickly then theres your problem, its much easir and cheaper than the compressor and easier to do

i do not have any ac gauges. just that psi one that came with the freon kit from auto parts store.
i looked on the compressor and the plate is still on it. I cannot tell if it turns on or not bc i cant hear it with the car running and fans going
