01 Civic DX cluster swap
Before you beat me up for not adequately searching, please read on.
I have spent a number of hours searching this site and google looking for a couple of answers about a DX to LX cluster swap in a 2001. I have learned much but unfortunately the majority of the information out there is about swapping in a "newer" 03-05 cluster.
I am only interested in swapping in a new cluster and the dealers can't seem to answer my questions.
My goal is to swap a brand new, from the dealer, 01 LX cluster into my DX. My car is an 01 DX Sedan AT no side SRS with only 46k miles. My speedo is acting up and I want a tach.
Here are my questions:
1- According to my vin, I have a Visteon cluster. Do I have to replace it with an LX Visteon? There have been comments that these are less reliable so given the option, I would switch to an LX Nippon.
2- Why is the coupe cluster $200 and the sedan cluster $350? Can I use either? The only difference I could see was the color.
Many thanks in advance for any insight or help.

Re: 01 Civic DX cluster swap
Well to get to the brand new cluster it will cost more where else you can find a used one in low miles and good condition will work too. I personally believe that there is no difference between a 2DR and 4DR cluster except for color. Also I have swaped mine 01 civic cluster to a coupe and I did that cause I wanted a red illumination which comes only in 2DR. I have the original cluster still with me but I believe it has 90k miles on it. its black and comes with tachometer (RPM) as well. Any cluster will work from 01 05 honda civic either 2DR or 4DR.
Good luck!!
Good luck!!

Re: 01 Civic DX cluster swap
Thanks for the input. Finding a low mile cluster is proving to be difficult. I will probably also have the dealer flash the new cluster with the proper miles, that way there is no question when it comes time to sell.
Anyone else know the answers?

Re: 01 Civic DX cluster swap
why not get an rsx cluster?
im going to be doing that here before long.
there are 2 rsx in the junk yard by me and im sure there are more in the bigger one i havent gone to yet.
its an easy swap, all u have to do is swap the connecters by cutting and soldering the wires( there are color matched) and your good to go and it looks hot.

Re: 01 Civic DX cluster swap
Honestly why not just switch to a newer cluster? I have an 01 lx and I swapped to an 5 ex coupe, it was really easy. Only time consuming part is removing the wire clips from each connector. There is a great DIY on the Facts and Guidelines thread. As for mileage, unless you are really worried about it which I wasn't, you just make a mileage chart on excel and just have the differences between the two clusters.

Re: 01 Civic DX cluster swap
Thanks for the replies. I am not interested in a newer year cluster. I want it to be as stock as possible with only a tach added.
I can get one from a dealer with the correct miles. I just need my questions answered before I do that. Thanks.

Re: 01 Civic DX cluster swap
Plug and play as long as same side/non side air bag equipped, and non abs. You can cut these leds if you can find a used cluster you like. Go for the Nippondenso reliable cluster. Back in my dealership days in 2001, 2002, 2003, we replaced many Visteon manufactured, never a Nippondenso manufactured cluster.
