Default opinions of earl schieb paint jobs

My del sol desperatly needs new paint. I was going to try and paint it myself but have found that it is too much of a hassle and would rather leave it to the pros(especially since some metal work needs to be done).I recieved a flyer from earl schieb offering their top of the line paint (normally 750) for only 500. It also has a lifetime warranty against fading & peeling(I was told it is in writing and should it ever have any of those problems it will be repaired free of charge as long as I have the original receipt.) So I guess my question is how is their quality when it comes to their top notch stuff? When I bought my former car(eg hatch) it was painted at maaco for like 300 and the paint looked good for about 3 years. Any help is appreciated.

it varies from shop to shop. some do decent work, others will just **** up your car. go to the shop and look at some of the cars they have painted to see the qaulity their work.

thanks for all the opinions so far, I'll probally do a majority of the basic prep work myself like masking or removing things so they don't get paint on them. I was told theone in beverly hills and canoga park do really good work, so if I do gor with eal shcieb it'll probally be one of those two shops.

Well after visiting 3 different body shops today, I can say I noticed very little difference between a 720 job @ earl schieb so I think I'll give them a shot, and it's written right on the paper I'd have to sign that if I'm not happy they fix it for free (if it's paint related) or 1/4 price (if it's something to do with body work) and that is good for 2 years. I've never heard of any other place offering something like that, even a well known place such as MOB works said that if I went through them their would be no discounts or freebies if I wasn't satisfied. Plus even though it's obviously not the highest quality stuff, it has a lifetime warranty against peeling, fading and spider-cracking(would be repaired free of charge!) something the other higher end places don't offer. Since this is my DD and not a show car, why spend more than 2000 on the paint anyways right?

it doesn't make a difference what the name of the location is , what does matter is the skill of the painter and the quality of paint.

If I have 3 people tell me that the ones in BH & Oxnard don't screw it up...not sure about you but, I'd be leaning towards a location that's reccommended rather than take a random chance.

y jdm, that thing is damn clean looking...I'll be going with the viper gts blue.

if you absolutely must go with them, i'd recommend doing some prep work of your own first. i checked out some of their 'sample vehicles' in their parking lot once and there was overspray everywhere (tires, moldings, wheel wells, mirrors, etc.). one poor guys rims even had paint on them.

as a special this entire month their pro 4 paint job is only 500. It has a lifetime warranty vs. 6yr and includes all the options like the extra clearcoat at the end and the UV protection.

The only e.s. jobs I've heard/seen of people not liking them is when they went with the cheapest package they offer(250 out the door, can be completed same day) so what do you really expect when your paying only 250???

Yea, what this dood said.

IIWM, I would take off the bumpers, mirrors, headlights and tail lights, all the moldings and trim and put on some old shitty wheels. Do as much of the trim work that you can. Replace as many of the mouldings and trim pieces that you can afford to replace with new pieces. Do all this and it should come out fine.

I'd talk to the guy who is actually going to paint your car and slip him a $50 to make sure your car turns out nicely, and tell him there's another $50 in it for him when it does. $100 to make sure your car gets some special attention isn't too much of a price to pay.

I'D SPLIT THAT $100 BETWEEN THE GUY DOING THE BODY WORK/PREP WORK AND THE PAINT GUY

I had overspray everywhere. My license plates had paint on it my windshield wipers were painted. I had paint on my front lights. It was horrible. And it started peeling off after a month so i sold it
