Towing Vespa Scooter with 2007 Honda Accord
Hi,
I own a 2007 Honda Accord 4 door and installed a 2x2 type three hitch on the car a couple of months ago. I want to tow my 260 pound Vespa. I have found the following vespa carrier on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...:1123
The carrier will hold about 350 pounds and my car weights about 2000 pounds. My question is that this is a free standing carrier and does not have wheels and is not towed like a trailer. I am just concerned that the car can handle? Please provide any feedback or comments.
Thank you,
Andy

Re: Towing Vespa Scooter with 2007 Honda Accord (wellinghurst)
I've seen people tow heavier things than a scooter with their Accords'. I don;t see a problem with this situation.

Well, What I am concerned about with this tow setup is that it is ALL TONGUE weight. The Accord does have a 200lbs maximum tongue weight, so I would figure that your Vespa plus the Carrier would run about 280-290lbs.
This weight is not the same as the weight of a full back seat in the Accord, because of the location of the force involved. Work Done = Force X Distance. The force of people in the back seat is close to the rear wheels, but as you get further away, it puts more net load on the suspension. When you put something beyond your bumper, it is going to put more load on the suspension.
It probably is fine, because I tow a jet ski and a motorcycle trailer with my Accord, and when you go up and down over bumps, it does rebound and bounce, however the wheels on the trailer makes this only happen occasionally. With the Vespa, the weight will be on the tongue constantly. I am not sure if the Accord would be able to handle this. You could try getting a mini trailer to suit you better.
This guy, from this tread has a SMALL trailer. Maybe you should look into something this size.

I tow on a regular with my 94 Accord as well.
