Help! Fan speed **** for a/c yields odd results
Hello all. I am a first time poster seeking an answer/help to a problem that my wife noticed with her car (2005 Accord, single climate control) today. I tried searching using relevant words but was unable to come across a similar problem.
The fan speed **** is producing odd results when turned. I have checked to make sure the **** is positively connected to the switch and it seems to be good so I don't think a broken/loose **** is the problem. The temperature control is still working fine and still blows cold/hot air. I have checked all relevant fuses.
The symptoms are as follows:
1) When in the off position the fan is still on similar to a medium setting. When turned to the clockwise the fan speed decreases to almost zero and when turned further cw it rises back up to medium speed. High speed is unacheivable at any setting.
2) Serveral buttons do not work; meaning when you press them they neither light up themselves or remove the light above the current button; the mechanical aspects of the buttons also do not occur. The buttons that don't work include: MaxAC, recirculate, defrost, and defrost w/ upper vents.
Does anyone have suggestions, advice, or experience with this problem? I am thinking the fan speed switch is bad, especially since the fan is still blowing while in the off position (I would think that would be an open circuit position). Although, the buttons not working make me believe that something else might be an underlying problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the power and ground circuits for the HVAC control head. If they are ok I suspect a bad HVAC control head.

Re: Help! Fan speed **** for a/c yields odd results (phootbag)
Update: Being the car was only 37 months old and had 35,000 miles I checked with the dealer about getting the work done under warranty before I dove in. After having to pay for the diagnostic ($45), Honda honored the warranty and performed the work at no cost. Actually the dealer did the work twice as when my wife showed up the first time it was "ready" the car showed the exact same symptoms when she started the car up... try again... two days later we both show up and everything seems good. I was unable to get anything specific out of the service center but was told the unit was "bad". Anyways a thanks goes to Honda for giving us an extra month on our warranty, definitely saved face.
