Default Won't down shift

I have a 92 accord EX manual transmission and I am unable to shift from 5th to 4th. Every other shifting motion works fine just not that one does anyone have any suggestions on what could be happening?

Thank you

Like physically? If double clutching does nothing then it's a bad synchronize gear or the gear itself. I'm also assuming you can't go into 4th at all, from any gear. Will it go in 4th at all under any circumstances?

It will go into 4th every other time I grinding just can’t down shift from 5th. If I let off the pressure of the stick and try again no problem. I am thinking linkage maybe.

Bad synchro. Not that letting off pressure and trying again is the trick, it's that you're waiting, which is allowing the gear and syncro to spin to the right speed (which allows the gear to slip in).

I would think it would grind if the synchro was bad if the speeds didn’t match the it would grind

Depends if it's the gear or the synchro or both. But any grinding noises imply a synchro ("if history has taught us anything..). Coming from 5th to 4th is faster speed transistion for the synchro (vs. 3rd to 4th). Implies you're starting to see the failing signs. But there is definitely an issue there and will need to open it up to take a look. Can you double clutch from 5th to 4th; does it grind?

I think you might not be getting what I am saying. There is no grinding ever anytime. It’s like there is a physical block from going into gear if it were a any bro there would be grinding.

Gotchya. But there's physically no difference in the movement here. If it goes in gear from 3rd, should go in from 5th. The physical "going into 4th" does work. Otherwise we could say shifter is blocked under the hood or mechanical issue.
Is there a short shifter in the car? (hitting under the shift boot will occur)

How about the Double Clutch =
1. In 5th gear
2. clutch in, shift into neutral
3. clutch out
4. clutch in
5. shift into 4th...
6. clutch out

Work? Do it slow at normal rpms. Is there anything you can do to make it go from 5th to 4th? (it works with the car off?)
