Re: white smoke in exhaust
White smoke is caused by engine coolant being added to the combustion process. A leaking head gasket doesn't always cause rough running though. It depends on the amount of coolant that is being introduced to the combustion process.
Aside from the head gasket coolant could also enter through a crack in the cylinder head intake port or combustion chamber. Or a crack in a cylinder walls. It could also be a crack in the exhaust port of the head. Have you done any cylinder head porting? This will cause white smoke and it won't interact with how your engine runs as much.

Turbo installation and now you've got smoke from the exhaust..... I'd almost wager that you've damaged a piston and the oil control ring can't control properly.
I'd perform a compression test to better determine what's afoot.
