Honestly, use any major brand so long as your pocket can afford to change it at regular intervals..
Personally I like Mobil1 but thats all up to you..

I use Valvoline Max Life Synthetic Blend. Has worked well for me. Only thing that I have read is that once you begin using any synthetic or syn blend, you need to continue using syn or syn blend. Not exactly sure why other than it treats the metal and once you switch to regular oil, it causes problems, can anyone verify this? I have just continued to use the same oil just in case, but have been happy with its performance.

i use castrol 10-30, or 5-30 if its a fresher engine. i figure the thicker weight would do a little more justice in an older engine...hasnt failed me yet

I've used Castrol GTX in my '99 Accord for maybe eight years or so, I change it every 5,000 miles and use Honda OEM filters (with a new crush washer each time).
A friend of mine who is a mechanical engineer buys the cheapest stuff he can find for his cars, he thinks I am wasting my money by buying a name brand. I don't care, I'm spending maybe $4 extra per oil change for the name brand, it's worth the peace of mind.

not necessarily. It depends on a lot of things. Temperature and climate of where you live takes a big part. Considering the "W" in 5 or 10W stands for winter not weight. Yes, 10W is thicker but its thicker because the components in the oil itself are made for a colder climate. In colorado all you need is a 5W for example, but in wyoming for example yo need a 10W because of how drastically cold it gets there. Unless you got bad oil leaks just stick to OEM specs when it comes to oil. Use whatever brand you want but when it comes to grade, use what the factory recommends.

I'd just change the gasket that is causing the leak. Thanks for the heads up. I usually just put whatever 5w30 in my car because I change it every 3000 miles. It doesn't get below 20 degrees here in Portland, Oregon, and when it does its only for a few weeks. What about oil filters? Where do you get the Honda OEM filters?

I was told by many Accord OG that Mobile 1 isn't that good. I went from that to Amsoil Fully Synthetic. Pretty expensive if you ask me, but I care about my high lift cams and stiffer valvetrains.

I use Castrol GTX high mileage.
I saw Valvoline has recycled oil now for the same price as the non-recycled oil. If I used Valvoline i'd use that no question.

Mobil 1 isn't that good technically because it is not a true synthetic. Mobil 1 Extended Performance however performs MUCH better than the other variants they offer. If you need something not too expensive that is available at Walmarts in 5qt jugs you can grab that. I used Amsoil and loved it, but they only sell it at select locations - none of which are easy for me to get to without taking a chunk of my Saturday or taking off early from work.

Here in MN, they carry Amsoil 5w30, 10w30, and many other weight at Napa and some other parts store that I probably haven't been to. I'll have to look into the Mobile 1 Extended Performance. The Mobile 1 I've been running is the $22.00 for a jug of 5 qts of oil, so yeah. I've ran Mobile 1 5w30 Fully Synthetic for almost a year or so til my one of my Skunk2 Pro2 exhaust cam lobe had a nick then finally decided that I should try Amsoil 10w30 as I was told that too thin of an oil will cause havoc on heavy springs and high lift cams.

Re: What oil do you swear by for your accord?
ill do what my experience tells me, while your correct on the climate point. i live in georgia where in winter i can be as low as the teens to in the summer where its constantly 90. but as a engine wears and those clearances increase it does help to go with a little thicker oil to compensate for the wear.

Using a full synthetic is a waste of money with the stock motor without boost in my opinion.
I use 5W-30 Valvoline High Mileage partial synthetic with an OEM filter.
