VTEC head on non VTEC motor?!

VTEC head on non VTEC motor?!
I'm sorting out my options here so just bear with me. I was told by a friend of mine that a VTEC head would fit onto my F22a1 engine and would help me out with the horsepower, is this true and is there more to it than that?

which head? i dont know much about F or H's but swapping to vtec would increase power, but its not just as easy as throwing a new head on. the car needs to be wired for it, and a few other parts

Idk about that particular F22 but there's a build log in the sticky at the top of the page for an F22b2 w/ H22b2 head. Read and learn...

I'd go for a A6 Head since it flows way better. You'll get a decent gain with less work.
Other than that, I've never really hear anybody swapping Vtec heads on F22Ax motors.

to the OP: that would be my suggestion, get a better cam and upgrade the manifolds. you may or may not spend the same as you would putting a VTEC head on, but it will be less headache for you and maybe more net gain... maybe.
then, you can do more depending on your budget and expectations of performance if you'd like.

Re: VTEC head on non VTEC motor?!
my suggestion would be either stick with your f22 motor, or go for an h22 longblock and use your trans if you're that tight on budget. I am currently on an f22a1 longblock, f22a4 header and a pipe, f22a6 intake mainold with h22 plenum and t body, a6 cam, pt6 ecu, and it runs like a champ. no v tec, but it can keep up with my buddie's integra ls. head to head too.

Long block is a term used for the complete engine block and cylinder head were as the term short block is used to describe the block without a head. The Pt6 ECU is the OEM (stock) 4th gen Accord Ex F22A6 ECU.

Re: VTEC head on non VTEC motor?!
1. There any wires that need to be hooked up between the ECU and VTEC solenoid?
2. Are there any sort of oil ports that need to be opened in the non VTEC block? And if
3. The stock Accord ECU can be chipped for VTEC.
There is a bit more than just throwing on a VTEC head and chipping the computer.

Go back and ask the guy that works on your Honda if,
1. There any wires that need to be hooked up between the ECU and VTEC solenoid?
2. Are there any sort of oil ports that need to be opened in the non VTEC block? And if
3. The stock Accord ECU can be chipped for VTEC.
