Default tried changing the auto shift ****. I screwed up. Please help!

When I was reading instructions on how to change the autoshift ****, it mentions NOT to pull up on the little white tube with the push down rod inside of it. When I was lifting the OEM shift **** off, it was kinda attached to it and pulled it out.

Read step 11: http://www.tasauto.com/Tech/Ti...11972

Now I'm not exactly sure WHAT was ruined, but now my night is ruined. I'm able to turn the little pushdown rod 360 degrees, but it pushed down and springs up fine.

I tried putting the stock **** back on but the screw holes dont line up now! It doesnt go down as far as it's suppose do. Has anyone screwed up like I have? I think I have to go to the dealership because i have NO CLUE on what in the mechanism broke.

The car changes gears fine, I just dont have a ****. The aftermarket **** is really weird. It comes with an allen key, but no allen screws, and some "shims." Neither work.

Please help.

i have a 97 and u know how many times ive tooken that white piece off? most of the time its b.c just like you its stuck to the spring.. i mean i know you have a 98 , i have NO idea why they say not to lift that white piece or the shifter will break, i dont understand that at all, b.c mine comes off all the time and i have tooken it off literally at least 10 times, anyways it COULD be diff for 98's but i doubt it, anyways, as far as screws lining up and stuff, just keep trying and mesisng with it im sure u will find a way to do it , if i lived near you id show you, its hard to explain stuff on the net, im sure someoen else is better at it though.

ps. just put the metal angled shifter u got on ur car the same way as in the pic and try it that way, i've had the problem with screws not lining up one time to, and u just gotta kinda gently mess with it and shake it so everything can set in place, but i wouldnt lose sleep over it.

Thanks dude. That thing seems like it'd be way too easy to break, if it DID actually do something..

I cant understand what exactly would break.. thats why i dont get it! That link on the instructions I posted is for a 97, and mine is pretty damn close. Anywho, I think my shift **** came without the allen screws because it came with an allen wrench..

They left out the screws, im pist so im ganna call tomorrow.

Those holes on the center part of the aftermarket push down shift **** assembly has the holes 90degrees of eachother. The stock hole placement on the shaft is 180 degrees of eachother (directly in front of one another. One on each side.)

Does anyone know what im talking about?

Are the allen screws just suppose to dig into the shaft, and not go into one of the holes?

Heres what im talking about. Look at the link & look at step 29.
http://www.tasauto.com/Tech/Ti...11972

The holes are 90 degrees of eachother. But thats not how the hole placement is on the shaft.

What are we suppose to do?

I guess im ganna be riding "knobless" for the next few days until that F***ER sends me those dam allen screws.

DO NOT BUY FROM eautoworks.com

ya i see what u mean about the screws, thats a good point, i wanna do this to my car too but havent had the time, so im not totally sure so hopefully someone who has done it will see this and answer, i would think if they dug in the shaft it would eventually loosen up but who knows, im pretty sure if ur comfortable going creative u could think of something if no one answer. Looks like if no one does though ill have to start thinking of ideas to sense im doing the same thing soon

I would just like to clarify that the product that is trying to be installed was not purchased from us, tpot90 is merely using our write-up for the install of his aftermarket shift **** from another company

The warning in Step 11 is there to tell people not to move either piece. If you lift up on the metal piece you can pull out a pin that is deep within the shifter assembly. Once that pin kicks loose your shifter will never fully go back into park. I understand that the white piece can move but I suggest not touching ANYTHING in fear of moving the metal piece. I know this because I did it on my 2002 V6 Accord Coupe and had to pay $$$ to get it fixed back in the day.

The collar in our Step 29 uses 2 allen screws that simply clamp the shaft. They do not insert into any holes. If you are worried about it not sticking when it digs into the shaft I used mine for 5 years and never had to tighten it.

There are many different style automatic shift ***** and I am not sure how yours attaches. Please post some pics so we can all see what you have and how it works.

My shifter assembly is exactly identical to the RAZO shift ****. I think everything should be fine. I drove my car last night without the shift **** and it goes into PARK..but just for safe measures, I'm ganna try my hardest not to remove that white thing anymore. Does anyone actually have the real name of it, rather than "the white thing?"
I just need to wait for the douche at eautoworks.com to send me my allen screws.

Meanwhile, I'm having trouble getting the OEM shift **** back into the correct place. It doesnt go down far enough to be able to line up both screw holes. Its about 1/4" higher than it needs to be.

Im ganna go mess with it & see what i can do.

In TAS's instructions on the install, can anyone tell me where to get the gray/white piece that attaches to the boot and screws into the center console? (Step 23)

That is so dumb, if you look on the stick with the midconsole removed there is a little hole where if you pull the white part out a part of it that sticks out and locks on the stick would be pulled inside. Looks like you just have to push it and twist it around until it pops back out of that hole on the side of the stick. Noob stuff

to get your stock **** back on as stated push the button in while pushing down...as for the ****....if you do encounter trouble with the screws diggin into the shaft(which you shouldnt) take some electrical tape and wrap it around the shaft and dig the screws into that....should do the trick
