I did a 1x D&F with DW1 on my 97 Accord when it had 148K miles. I now have about 2K miles on that fill and the tranny still works good, but without any perceptible change in shift performance.

I did a 4x DW1 D&F on my 04 Odyssey and noticed the tranny shifted smoother with the 1st D&F.

So it just goes to show you that the multiple drain/refills makes the difference - good to know.

I mentioned before that the ATF from local Honda dealer was nearly $11/qt. Just saw it online - a case of 12 for $75.

Any reservation with buying this online? Looks to be the same product...?

Now the problem I face is that my local honda dealer wants nearly $11/quart... Compared to trans replacement, not a concern. But still... $11/quart and then 3 drains... damn... LOL

Thanks again
It is pricey, but as you said it beats the price of a trans replacement. Space out the purchase if it makes it more financially feasible. 3 quarts now, 3 more in a few weeks etc...

Not necessarily ... I noticed improved (smoother) shift performance with the first DW-1 D&F on the Odyssey; no further improvement after that.

I rec'd a case of the Honda ATF DW-1 tranny fluid - I suppose it's fine as compared to what' I'd get from the dealer and better than 1/2 price. Drained my '05 accord yesterday(2nd change at 135k..) and it was a piece of cake - thanks in large part to all of your postings in this forum.

One quick comment and One question:

1. I did not expect the fluid to be so... well, fluid... and it came rushing out at a much greater rate than motor oil.. That was unexpected and luckily my drain pain was large enough to accommodate the further reach/pour as the transmission drained.

2. I drained the transmission on a hill with the front of the car facing downhill. I hoped that this might allow for a greater amount of fluid to be drained.... When I refilled, I started with nearly 3 qts. Then drove a bit to warm things up and checked the level -on an almost flat surface. I kept adding until the dip stick registered between the 2 holes. At this point, I added 3 qts PLUS 28 oz from a 4th bottle. Drove some more this morning and checked again and find that I am over-filled... about 1/4" over the Full hole on dip stick.

I realized at the time that I was adding more than you all suggested, but, again, I thought that, since I drained in a downhill position, I simply drained more fluid than had I performed this on level ground so I needed more to bring me up to full

Either way, now I'm concerned that I have too much fluid in the trans. Does it behave like engine oil and get "foamy"? Am I correct in assuming too much fluid is not a good thing?

Assuming I need to get this excess fluid out, is there a way to extract the fluid from the filler neck as opposed to draining from beneath the car? I ask because I can see that trying to drain just a bit will create one hell of a mess as I try to reinstall the drain plug.

By the way, the trans is shifting very smoothly (was fine before I drained) and the fluid that was drained was just a bit darker than the new "red' going in and... not a trace of any shavings or debris on the magnetic plug.

Thank you for any thoughts....

or

or

with a longer hose...

& as far as going to amazon or eBay (which I went to get my cases of honda-specified fluids) they're cheaper than the local stealerships; heck, some of the eBay sellers I buy from are actual Honda/Acura dealers or suppliers!

Just thought I'd add this for the hell of it. According to Haynes repair manual, the tranny fluid capacities are: Automatic v6-3.1 quarts F22B2/F22B1-2.5 quarts; Manual-2 quarts.

I just change the tranny fluid on my 99 accord manual and it tooks 2 quarts and I put in the oil using a funnel with a long tube attached to the end. Just fill it until the fluid starts leaking out. I feel the Honda MTF is worth the extra money over using regular motor oil .

I noticed much smoother shifting when I switched out my MTF to Honda MTF. My second gear still grinds but it grinds about half the time now.

I have 365,000 on my 95's original automatic. I do a 3 quart change about every 30,000. I would do yourself a favor and sell the Jimmy, the Accord is a much much more reliable ride.
