Default Stock Stereo Question

I just bought an 03 Accord LX. This model doesn't come with the in dash six disc cd changer, so my question is if I buy one, is it just plug and play or are there modifications I have to make to make it work? The only thing that would make me wonder is that the EX and EX-V6 have dual climate control, so will the dual climate control work on my LX? Any help is appreciated.

Honda radios will P&P
Aftermarket Radio heads (if they will fit) will require an adapter harness, available from places like Best Buy, AutoFX, Crutchfield and some of your local audio specialty shops.

Well, I guess that I knew the radio would be plug and play. My main concern is the dual climate control that is on the radio and if it would work.

I think you would also have to get the temperature sensors (for the dual climate control) if you want it to actually work. But I'm pretty sure the wires are there for it, if you want to get them too.

Handa-accessories.com has it for $469.

To answer your question, it looks like it’s just a matter of installing it with no replacement on other things. Here’s the installation instructions, look through it to make sure:

But $469 for an in-dash changer?

Read this thread from an Odyssey forum talking about problems with these 6-disk in-dash cd changers:

Take the money and pick up a nice aftermarket head unit with a trunk mounted aftermarket cd changer if you really want a cd changer. Or... keep the radio you have and just hook up an aftermarket Alpine CD changer (trunk mounted) to it with an adapter.

If you were wondering what a trunk mounted CD changer looks like in the Accord, here are some pictures of a trunk mounted cd changer (Alpine) that I put in my ’99 LX:

I’ve never had any trouble with this changer, either with labels on the CDs or playing CD-Rs. It’s hooked up to my OEM radio. Of course, this is a 6th generation Accord and yours is a 7th, but it should be similar.

Well, actually I’m saying to install an Alpine CD changer in the trunk. Yes, I know that the Honda branded CD changer is made by Alpine, but it’s too expensive for what it is (apparently a low-end Alpine changer).

The Honda branded CD changer runs $390 from http://www.handa-accessories.com .

The Alpine CHA-S634, $299 from Crutchfield is an option though you’d need two adapters to make this work – one to change it from CHA to CHM, and another to fit the radio. Make sure you can get these adapters before ordering of course.

Or the Alpine CHM-630, less than $200 from a number of stores (though not offered by Crutchfield). With this you’d only need one adapter, to make it plug into your radio.

How do you find the adapters? The easiest way would be to stop by an Alpine dealer and tell them that you want to plug both of these into your car and want to buy the adapters through them. Will cost a little more (maybe $30 vs $20 or so), but you’ll get the right adapters.

By the way, the drawback to putting an Alpine CD changer into your trunk is that you will need to build a mount for it – that’s the wooden box in the pictures I linked to above. The Alpine comes with the cable from the changer to the head unit (at least mine did), the Honda branded changer doesn’t – you have to buy the Honda branded mounting kit to get this cord. The $390 price for the Honda-branded changer from handa-accessories comes with the mounting kit.
