think of a wire like a hose, large gauge wires with good connections can carry a lot of current easily, small gauge wires or bad connections limit the amount of power a wire can carry (amps) so even though the voltage may read 12 (or 13.5, whatever) if the connection is crappy or the wire degraded your coil will starve for power & miss a spark e.g. stall the engine...or another possibility is the alternator is going; does the car run fine with the headlights on with a fresh charge for about 60 minutes then take a crap? (get a good charger & try that, you'll need a good charger in your tool collection anyway) or just keep kicking the car because that always works out well in the end.

You might want to look at these:

1. weak battery
2. poor battery connections
3. weak alternator or slipping belts or bad connections

NEw battery replaced terminals and i hear the belts slip occasionally but only when it first starts and i hold it at 4k rpm to even out the gas flow from the crappy stock fuel pump... alternator is charging the battery just fine its at 14.27 when running and 12.47 when off and btw my honda is going to be abused by drifting and street racing. Sucks I didnt have enough money for a 1986 5.0 mustang
