Default Squeaking in front suspension

I posted about this topic a while back, but the problem arose once again. At slow speeds I can hear a terrible squeak coming from my front suspenion. I had ALL front balljoints replaced, but the dreaded noise continues. It occurs when weight is put on the front suspension, and then is lifted off (such as going over a small bump).

I am now thinking it may be bushings. In which case, I would like to replace most of the front bushings to see if it takes care of the issue. I would like to know if someone can tell me or show me a diagram of all/most of the front end suspension bushings that I should replace.

What's your suspension setup. Stock or Aftermarket. Go into detail in your initial post. Sounds like a bushing issue though.

If it's the "normal squeak" that all older accords develop then it's more then likely coming from your front radius rod bushings. The ones all the way at the front in the front cross member. There could be some sway bar bushings as well, but more then likely the bulk of the noise is coming from those radius rod bushings. There's 4 total.

IMO, more than likely, as I had this problem with 2 of my cars, it's your swaybar bushing. Probably dry.

Spray some white lithium grease on the following bushings.

Here is a diagram and listing of the bushings.

The parts that your looking at are
2, Stabilizer bushing
10, Rear Radius Rod Bushing
11, Front Radius Rod Bushing
12, LCA Bushing
16, Shock Bushing

There is really no need to replace them if they stop squeaking with a little grease. If it starts squeaking within a few days then they should be replaced. I sprayed WD-40 on my LCA bushings and the squeak went away for a full year+. And when I took them apart they were still in good shape.

I thought this question looked very familiar

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by GhostAccord &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Spray some WD-40 or grease all of your bushings in the front end, 2 in each of the lower control arms, 2 sway bar and your sway bar end links and lastly the 2x front & rear radius rod bushings. If your car does not have a sway bar I would suggest that you put it back on. It will handle much better Just a note Honda refers to the sway bar and it's components as a stabilizer.

As for checking for bad front end parts it goes something like this
Push & Pull the Tire @ 12 & 6, Movement = Upper & lower ball joints
Push & Pull the Tire @ 3 & 9, Movement = Tie Rod ends
Spin the Tire, Grinding noise = Bearing or rusty brakes </TD></TR></TABLE>

So if you greased your bushings back when you posted this question and they are squeaking already. You should replace the squeaky bushing.

I'm going to assume by the lack of it in his post that he did not grease the bushings.

Thanks guys, I will get around to greasing all the bushings that I can find. FYI im running mostly aftermarket. Sprint shocks & springs, OEM Standard (not Honda Genuine) balljoints.

Also, I've gotten a few different names as to which grease I should use. I'm hesitant to WD40, & I heard the white grease is for "metal on metal" lubrication. Are there any other ideas?

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

I lubed all visible bushings inlcuding my front sway bar, which I put back on. I will have to try lubing the LCA Bushings, and the shock bushings.

*What does LCA stand for?

I'm starting to think its my struts, but I am a little weiry on purchasing new ones just to discover that the struts are not the problem..

Stabalizer Bar mounting bushings (at frame).

You can either remove the bushing, wrap the bar with teflon tape and reassemble or apply some lithium grease (non water soluable).
If they feel loose, replace them - they're cheap.

So I should wrap the stabelizer bushings themselves in teflon tape? Or the mounting bracket?

I don't understand why the sway bar bushings would make this sound while continuing in a a straight path at slow speeds. Doesn't the sway bar only effect quick cornering of the car? And how would covering the bushings in this tape stop the "squashing" noise?

What sounds would a bad strut or spring make, if any?

Alright, I wrapped my stablizer bushing bracket in teflon tape. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

White lithium grease is not compatible with rubber! Silicon spray is though. Beyond that, lithium is detrimental to rubber. Be sure to lube anything that is rubber with silicone grease and not lithium grease!

Yes, the teflon tape wrapping will work or you can just remove the bushing from the front radias rods and lubed them. We do this all the time in our shop.
Good Luck

Like I said. I would use silicone grease or spray.
